Do Everything, Regret Nothing

dav

Because life is short, I’m always trying to make the most out of any situation or time I have in a one place or with people that I love. Since we have no idea what tomorrow will bring, I’m all about making the most of the present moment and enjoying every minute of it.

I have been crushing hard on Medium Watches for quite some time now. The reason why I love this Canadian brand so much is not only because they make amazing designs in Canada but also because they also allow you to customize and make your own unique watch.

hdr

Their latest design for women called, The Debut is the perfect combination of style and functionality. You can customize your strap and also etch the caseback of the watch with a life motto or an inspiring quote. Getting back to the theme of making the most of your time, I decided to etch the saying “Do Everything, Regret Nothing“.

I picked the classic gold and black combo with the woven mesh stainless steel strap. The watch is my daily go-to because it goes with just about anything. A little detail that I like on the watch is the “16” indicator has been highlighted to mark the year of the watch.

dav

For the past three years, I have decided to stop holding back and say yes to opportunities that come my way, always keeping an open mind and also making the most of any situation that may arise.

dav

This quote has been a huge motivator for me when I have doubted myself or questioned doing certain things. This quote is also my background on Facebook and has been at the forefront of my thoughts on a daily basis.

What motto would you engrave on your watch? #Whatsyourmedium

Moving Forward

fullsizerender-16

Ever felt stuck in a rut or stuck on a path that you didn’t want to be on? Prior to leaving my full-time television gig at the end of the summer, I really felt stuck in a situation and world that I no longer wanted to be in. Moving forward in life is something that isn’t easy to do but is necessary in order to find happiness and fulfillment. I’ve learned over time that when situations become unbearable, it’s better to break free and move forward and that goes not only for your professional life but also for your personal life (health, wellness, etc.).

Moving forward in my career isn’t the only obstacle I’ve had to overcome this year. My recent back injury totally made me feel stuck and powerless especially as months went on and I was seeing no improvement. I felt like I wasn’t getting better or getting myself out of this situation. I thought on several occasions that I was on a path of healing and change only to be stopped dead in my tracks and have to start over.

fullsizerender-17

2016 has taught me that moving forward isn’t easy but super necessary both personally and professionally. So I wanted to share with you today some of the things I’ve learned from this experience.

My 5 tips for moving forward:

1) Figure out what’s stopping you from moving forward and making that change in your life. Take time to reassess your goals and aspirations and use that as a motivator to help yourself to get “unstuck”.

2) Stop listening to everyone else. When I went to leave my steady job, everyone was questioning why, trying to scare me by telling me I wouldn’t get another steady paycheck, that there were no jobs on the market at the moment, etc. Same went with my injury, I was told healing could take forever, that I may never run again, etc. The key to moving forward was blocking out all the noise around me.

3) Spread positivity. Surrounding myself with positive thoughts and people helped me focus on the goal at hand and helped me conquer my fears of moving forward. I made sure to celebrate little progress I made with my injury and focus on the pros of leaving my full-time job.

4) It won’t be easy. Whether it was having to cut down on spending after leaving my job or dealing with not being active, both were incredibly hard things to deal with or adjust to. There will be days where you will doubt yourself or days where you question your decision, but it’s important to persevere throughout the process.

5) The end result will be worth it. Once you realize that you control your destiny, that taking risks always pay off and that if you focus on what makes you happy and overcome the speed bumps along the way, you will be successful in your transition! You will be able to get yourself out of that situation that you no longer want to be in. Though I’m not by any means making a killing as a freelancer, I’m a lot happier, calmer and fulfilled than I was prior to leaving my job. Also, finally being able to be active again has motivated me beyond belief. I’ve never been so excited to pursue a sport in my entire life. I can’t wait to see what I can accomplish now that I have moved forward!

Fall Goals

fullsizerender-21

Fall is a great time to re-asses a lot of things in life including your health. Because fall is synonymous with change, it’s a great time to make a few adjustments or improvements in your life. It’s also a great time of year to set new goals.

fullsizerender-22

My main fitness goal this year was to run a half-marathon but unfortunately that goal will not become a realization due to some unforeseen circumstances. That said, I am not giving up on my goal. Instead, I am using these next few weeks to come up with a plan of action regarding how I can make this a reality in the next couple of months.

fullsizerender-19

Cross-training and building slowly will be key, so will doing some proper core strengthening exercises and making sure I eat right. Since I will be traveling for the next couple of months, these are all things that need to be implemented in my daily and weekly routine so that I can keep on track without having a regular schedule. Making my health and training my priority will be the only way that I can achieve this goal or any goal for that matter.

fullsizerender-20

I’ve found it incredibly inspiring these past couple of months to follow athletes on social media, read articles about goal-setting and also surrounding myself with positive people. All of these can aid with achieving a specific goal.

There’s no better time than now to look into new goals and start planning on how you’re going to make them happen. What goals are you setting for yourself this fall?

What Motivates You?

fullsizerender-45

What motivates you to get out there, day after day, week after week, month and month and year after year? What motivates you to do what you love, to keep going during hardships and never give up on your dreams or goals? What motivates you to keep your head held high when everything around you seems to be bringing it down?

fullsizerender-46

For me, it’s my passion for life, my desire to be better, my want to surpass myself and my inner voice that just won’t quit. For the first time in a long time, I’ve been faced with a health issue that just won’t go away. I have always said in my life that all that really mattered to me at the end of the day, was my health. Because without my health, I can’t really accomplish much. You can have all the motivation and passion in the world, but if your body doesn’t follow, there’s sometimes not much you can do. My health has always been a huge motivator for me. Growing up, living with my mom who unfortunately faced numerous serious health issues, I always told myself that if I had my health that I would be invincible.

fullsizerender-44

Since I started running and training last year, I’ve had clean medical chart. No injuries, nothing to worry about, the coast was clear. I felt invincible but also reminded myself on a daily basis to be grateful knowing all that could change in an instant. And change it did, this summer. I went from working out twice a day to being told to stop everything, as I mentioned in my post earlier this week.

Instead of being down, and losing motivation to get better and to get back out there, this injury has motivated me EVEN MORE than ever to pursue my dreams and do all the things I love. It’s when you can’t do them that you realize just how much you love certain things, how important they are to you and just how positively they affect your life. Running and being active has done so much for me in the past year and a half, I can’t even begin to explain.

fullsizerender-43

Thinking of running again, motivates me every day during my injury to do all the things I can to get better. I’m dreaming of all the races that I can sign up for in 2017, all the places I want to run in, what I would wear, etc. This injury has made me so grateful for the fact that I can run and I know will give me even more purpose when I am finally able to run again.

fullsizerender-42

Until then, I’m practicing patience, mindfulness and keeping my head high, staying positive because I know that it’s only a matter of time before I wake up again and can finally lace up those shoes and go out there for a run. That will be one of the best days of my life, hands down!

Hello Fall!

fullsizerender-28

Making the most of the time I have in Toronto before I leave for my next travel and life adventure. I’ve only got one month left so I intend on doing all of my favorite things in the city before I leave for a little while.

fullsizerender-29

Just a few days ago I was walking around in flip flops and shorts and in the last couple of days, fall showed up. I’m definitely not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet (didn’t it just fly by this year?) but I’m happy to be able to dress in some of my favorite warmer clothes again.

fullsizerender-30

Having a good pair of jeans is key for fall so you’ll be seeing me living in my new GUESS jeans all throughout the season. They’re perfect to run errands around the neighbourhood before I start packing for the big adventure.

Salton Sea

FullSizeRender (10)

I LOVE exploring! After hearing so much about this place I finally headed to the Salton Sea last week for a little bit of exploring.

FullSizeRender (4)

We decided to drive around the entire body of water, stopping at different locations whenever we felt like it. The desolation is real at the Salton Sea. What used to be a resort area in the 50s is now almost completely abandoned. The smell of decay and strong salty stench is present everywhere you walk around. There are also an innumerable amount of dead fish and birds on the waterfront due to the water’s salinity.

FullSizeRender (7)

FullSizeRender (5)

While we were driving around we saw a film crew shooting. The area is a renown location for movie, music video and television shoots.

FullSizeRender (6)

Over the years, many plans have been proposed to help rehabilitate the Salton Sea but not much progress has been made. It’s a truly beautiful place with so much potential, it’s sad to see that nothing is really being done to save this body of water. With its amazing desert location, I totally understand why it was a vacation spot 60+ years ago. A must-visit for sure!

Are You Game?

t7

If there’s one thing that watching the Olympics has for me done this year is encouraged me to be even more active… If that’s even possible!

t1

Lately I’ve been paying more and more attention to tennis because there are so many Canadians leading the way in the sport.

t3

t2

Growing up, tennis was a pretty important part of my summers. I took countless tennis clinics, took part in weeks of tennis camp, attended the Rogers Cup in Montreal and watched my fair share of tennis tournaments on television.

t4

t12

I stopped playing tennis during my teens but have been playing on and off as an adult. Lately, with all the attention Canadian athletes have been getting, it has motivated me to get back on the court. Tennis is such a great workout and way to spend time outdoors, I wish I would have been out again sooner. The city of Toronto also has a handful of free tennis courts around the city that are perfect for either beginners or those wanting to polish their playing skills.

t13

I’m excited to be back on the court brushing up on my skills. I’m currently looking for a tennis partner in the city, so hit me up if you’re game!

Dreamy Summer Picnic

FullSizeRender

I have always dreamed of having a Pinterest-worthy picnic in the park. Last week, my summer picnic dreams came true with my lovely friend Aylin (that you may recognize from my hairspiration posts!). She suggested we get dressed up and make flower crowns. I’m no Martha Stewart but I have always loved making crafts. Last December, I used Pinterest to make all of the DIY decorations for my wedding and they turned out to be a hit.

No hang out with Aylin would be complete without a bunch of laughs and us acting like complete goofs. Dressing lady-like is one thing but acting lady-like is a whole other. Our amazing photographer Nelly (thehogtowntable.com) who made the entire shoot and afternoon possible brought us some delicious homemade beverages and pies to complete the picnic (you can see her yummy drink recipe here).

I love when friends challenge me to do something outside of my comfort zone. Making these beautiful crowns was tricky but allowed me to be creative and do something different. I’m pretty stoked on how they turned out!

Right Where I Wanna Be

FullSizeRender (13)

Life is all about making decisions and taking chances. For the past couple of months, I’ve been struggling to make a big decision that had become pretty darn obvious that I needed to make.

FullSizeRender (16)As much as making big moves in life are incredibly scary, intimidating, etc., they also make you feel alive. I’ve learned in my life thus far that if I’m not happy, I need to take a look at my life, reassess the things that make me happy vs. those that do not and have the courage to eliminate what is making me unhappy. Whether it’s family, friends, lovers, work, etc., all these elements should add something positive to your life and if they do not, then one must have the courage to make the changes necessary in their life to get rid of that negativity.

FullSizeRender (17)

After months of pondering, I finally decided to make that decision I had been putting off for a while. The uncertainty that comes along with making that decision is scary but also exhilarating and freeing. I can honestly say that I am now right where I wanna be. Excited for the adventures ahead!

Festival Season

f7

It’s officially festival season and when you work in music like I have been for the past 10+ years, it’s basically like Christmas or your favorite time of year. Festival season is a great time to be outdoors, hang out with friends and also discover new music.

f4

Growing up, I would save all the money I would make working at camp to be able to buy Vans Warped Tour tickets or outdoor concert tickets. When I started working in music and started obtaining media passes, I was so incredibly stoked to be able to spend my summers traveling across North America at some of the raddest music festivals. Some of the most memorable festivals that I attended were Festival d’été de Québec, the inaugural Osheaga festival and going on tour with Vans Warped Tour for a couple of dates.

f6

These days festival season also means festival fashion. Come to think of it, I would always pre-plan my festival outfits even as a teen. I would pick out my favorite pair of skate shoes, pants, tee and accessories. I guess not much has changed over the years, except for the actual clothes I wear to a festival have evolved quite a bit 😉

f3

If I were to put together my favorite festival outfit for this year, this would be it! Dressing for a cause is also pretty cool. I love incorporating a few TOMS pieces into my festival wardrobe. Their One for One policy of giving back makes me feel good about wearing these pieces. For each eyewear purchased, sight is restored for a person in need and for each pair of shoes purchased, a pair of shoes is given to a child in need.

Happy festival season everyone!
