With the clocks rolled back and the end of Daylight Saving Time, it can only mean one thing – winter is right around the corner! Since I have yet to runaway to California, Mexico, Florida, Portugal or anywhere warmer than Toronto, it looks like I’ll have to endure one more Canadian winter.
As of late, I’ve really tried to make the best of the season I so hate by a) traveling a lot b) practicing a multitude of winter sports and c) having fun with my winter style. Not an easy feat to look stylish but also stay toasty and warm. On the weeks that get really cold, I really couldn’t care less if I look like an Abominable Snowman, as long as I am warm and my extremities aren’t freezing. Luckily, winter doesn’t get too harsh in Toronto and we usually don’t end up having much snow downtown. It’s still feasible to go outside while looking relatively cute. Plus with so many brands now making amazing threads for winter, there’s definitely a way to stay stylish even in subzero weather.
Here are some of the things I’m coveting for my winter wardrobe this year:
Yesterday, I had mentioned ankle boots being one of my favorite things for spring. A second thing that is worth investing in for this season is also a maxi skirt. You’ve probably seen them all over fashion magazines, on runways and on the street already. Graphic maxi skirts are also super cool. I had purchased the one I’m wearing today last spring at H&M for a whopping $20. I’m definitely considering adding more to my wardrobe this season as well. Pretty much every store are carrying them right now, Topshop has a huge selection and so does ASOS and Forever 21, H&M, etc.
Happy Wednesday! Couldn’t be more excited to have won tickets to the One Of A Kind Show, taking place at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto this week. Thanks Dainty Girl!
This morning I picked up a box of new swag from Forever 21. Say what you will about the store but they have some great affordable accessories and clothes. Most of their items don’t last long but because they’re pretty trendy, you’ll probably not want to wear them next season anyways unless they’re basics. Today’s outfit is a little wild and full of color. I used to never wear orange because I was told it didn’t go well with my complexion and hair color (GINGER!) but I honestly don’t think it’s true. Today, I’m wearing a burnt orange tee, leopard print loose fitting trousers and a bunch of gold armcandy from Forever 21 and Lionette!
Happy Wednesday! Who doesn’t love a 4-day week? I was feeling a little laid back this morning when I got dressed so I decided to pull out one of my knit Volcom sweaters I got in California this summer from one of my favorite surf shops in Encinitas – Hansen’s . They’re a family-run shop that sells rad clothes, surfboards, sandals, watches, basically anything you would need to surf and live by the beach. I also wanted to wear my new beanie that I got at TOPSHOP this weekend (a lovely gift from mr. @offneraurelien :))
Today is an exciting day for Canadian music! The 2013 Juno Nominations (the Canadian Grammys) are being revealed in Toronto. I love the Juno Awards because they go above and beyond just putting on the gala itself. The entire week leading up to the gala is filled with activities, benefits, showcases, etc. Each year, the Junos are held in different cities across the country. This year the gala and Juno Week is being held in Regina, Saskatchewan on April 21st. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from covering the Juno Awards and the red carpet for the last couple of years, it’s to dress WARM! Each year, they decide to do the red carpet outdoors even if it’s still snowing out. I was really lucky to wear a beautiful and warm dress from Martin Lim last year, which kept me toasty and I’m really looking forward to working with another up and coming designer for this year’s red carpet. Details to come 😉
For today’s Juno Nominations, I’m wearing a brand new southwestern inspired stretchy skirt from Topshop, a white tee, my diagonal zip black jacket and my 80%20 boots. I’ve also paired that with brand new accessories from Topshop and Asos. I’m in love with my new Aztec necklace!
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Wishing you a very lovely day! Today is also my little (who’s not so little anymore) sister Amy’s birthday! Today she turns 25! I’m so proud of her. She’s currently studying law at U of Ottawa. She’s super passionate about the environment and animals and I know she will make a great lawyer in the future! Happy Birthday Amy!
