Is it just me or has January flown by? What a busy month it has been for me. I definitely started 2015 with a very strong work ethic and have been busting my butt clocking long hours and putting in all of my heart, knowledge and creativity into my work. With so much going on and so much coming up (got tons of traveling coming up in the next couple of months, so excited to share with y’all new travel blog posts following these travels), it’s hard not to work hard. As a kid, my mother would always say, “do your best and f*ck the rest“… Yes, maybe not the “f*ck” part when I was a kid but would always encourage me to work hard and do the best that I can at everything I did.
During one of my meetings today, I had a moment where I couldn’t believe that after all these years of work, I was where I am today. It was a weird out of body moment, where I was looking at myself and what I was doing in disbelief. My career holds a very important place in my life and the only reason I’ve attained the job status I have today is because I’ve worked my butt off, not counting my hours, working without getting paid for years while paying my dues and then when finally attaining my first real job, working hard to get to the next level.
I think having a hard working ethic will lead to positive results no matter what area in your life. Whether it’s your career, family, personal goals, health, etc. without putting work into it, you won’t get any results. As of late, I’ve been focusing a lot of my energy on becoming the healthiest person that I can be and with that comes work. By registering to a 10k run, comes work. By wanting to eat clean every day, comes work. If you work hard in life, it will pay off! That’s what I’ve always believed in and hopefully always will. Who’s with me?
I may have turned 29, 30 recently, but I still feel like a kid at heart. There’s nothing I love more than being silly, goofing off, playing around and being mesmerized or fascinated by new things. I wonder if I’ll ever grow out of it… but then again, maybe I shouldn’t. These past couple of days, I’ve been having so much fun walking around my city, exploring new places in Toronto and taking photos. It’s become a fun ritual for Offner and I and goes above and beyond taking photos of clothes.
Speaking of never growing out of something, I don’t think I’ll ever grow out or grow tired of wearing leopard print. Only time will tell I guess… But I particularly like these pants that I got a little while ago because they are a more subtle version of leopard print.
Finally back from my vacation, which means back to blogging! Hope you’ve been keeping well these past two weeks. Can’t wait to share with you all my latest travel adventures. New travel blogs coming soon!
In the meantime, I’m excited to share photos from this beachwear photo shoot I did while I was in Encinitas with a super talented and nice photographer from the San Diego area called Nathan Petty. I’ve been following Nathan’s photography via his Instagram account (that you can follow here) for the last couple of months and had loved all of the surfing action shots and portraits he had been posting. We did a 3-part shoot on and around the beach. Here are pics from the first part of our shoot together. The second part will be coming tomorrow!
Happy Friday everyone! Incredibly excited for the weekend! Running, watching movies, playing music (yes, yes, you read right!) and eating good food are on the program for the next two days. What are your plans for the weekend?
I’ve been watching so many movies and docs as of late, that starting today, I’m going to be of posting my movie of the week every Friday. This week…
My movie of the week: is Anchorman 2. Never would have thought this but the second instalment is even funnier than the first. The storyline gets a little out of whack at times but all in all, a good time from start to finish. Tons of really cool cameos, great styling and a really interesting critique on the state of television today. If you didn’t catch it in theatres, it’s now available on iTunes.
For today’s outfit, I’ve piled on some denim and paired it with some blue and white and some silver jewelry.
I love anything to do with sharks! I’m obsessed with Shark Week, I love watching documentaries on sharks, I love learning about them and hope to one day be lucky enough to go on an expedition to swim with them. I have utmost respect for these creatures. Though a bit scary, sharks are so smart and have such distinct and interesting characteristics. So I was pretty stoked when OIA Jules created some pretty gold shark tooth inspired necklaces. I loved my big necklace so much, I recently got a miniature version of it as well. I wouldn’t say I would describe myself as being a “shark” but I do love the confidence these animals have. I think it’s ok to have shark-like confidence once in a while!!
Yesterday, I had mentioned ankle boots being one of my favorite things for spring. A second thing that is worth investing in for this season is also a maxi skirt. You’ve probably seen them all over fashion magazines, on runways and on the street already. Graphic maxi skirts are also super cool. I had purchased the one I’m wearing today last spring at H&M for a whopping $20. I’m definitely considering adding more to my wardrobe this season as well. Pretty much every store are carrying them right now, Topshop has a huge selection and so does ASOS and Forever 21, H&M, etc.
Today, one of my favorite new bands called Language Arts released a brand new record. The band’s leader Kristen reminds me a lot of Lisa Loeb with her glasses and her style of singing. You can stream Wonderkind in full here. Listening to the record on repeat helped me get through the day (feeling ill again, boo!), particularly this song – “Oh Tangible World”. Here’s a cute acoustic version:
Happy I’m able to take my Pamela Love boots back out. As one of my friends Nicolenoticed the other day, ankle boots seem to be all the rage now that the weather is warming up. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a HUGE fan of ankle boots. I think they’re totally worth investing in because they go with just about anything: skinnies, dresses, skirts, shorts, etc. You can also find a good pair of ankle boots for under $200. One of my favorite maker of ankle boots is a brand from NYC called Modern Vice. They’ve got just about every style and color imaginable and are handmade right in Manhattan. Though a bit more pricey, they’re definitely worth the money. During my last trip to NYC I was able to order two new pairs, which I can’t wait to show you! Do you have a favorite pair of ankle boots?
With spring finally deciding to show up, I couldn’t be more excited to have received an amazing package from British Columbia (by the way, I’m so due for a visit soon!!) this past weekend. I got some rad new shoes from a Canadian brand called Native Shoes. You may have heard of them already if you’re a big Trouble Andrew fan as he is one of the brand’s ambassadors. You may have also seen their super colorful and quirky ad campaigns, they kind of look straight out of a Wes Anderson movie. If not, a bunch of celebrities including Obama‘s daughters have been spotted sporting these kicks. The reason why I love these shoes so much is that a) as their motto states, they’re super lite and also comfy, b) they’re the perfect post-surfing/wakeboarding/SUPshoe because they’re waterproof and easy to clean c) they’re Canadian!! I’m also a big fan of all of the colors they have for the spring.
Though it’s still a little too chilly to sport them every day, I figured I’d take them out for a trial run today on this beautiful Monday along with my new Anine Bing cropped jeans. What are some of the clothes you’re excited to wear now that the weather has gotten a tiny bit warmer?! Let me know!
Apologies for the lack of updates these past couple of days. Right after spending a few hectic days at World MasterCard Fashion Week I left for NYC at the crack of dawn on Friday. I’m beyond thrilled to have attended the School Of Style this past weekend at the Ace Hotel in Manhattan. The coolest Christmas present! I’ll be posting a new NYC travel blog shortly with more info about the school. Can’t wait to continue my training with them this spring/summer and be able to get my diploma!
Speaking of spring, like most of you, I’m extremely tired of wearing dark colors. I’m currently listening to a lot of “spring” records including this rad new record from a band called Language Arts. Tracks like these definitely add a bit of magic and color to my day. What are your current spring favorites? What colors are you stoked about for Spring?

Day 4 already of WMCFW! I can start feeling the fatigue creeping up on me. A good way to know if I’m tired – if you see me wearing my glasses, then you know I’m not getting too many Zzz’s 😉
For today’s outfit, I went for a more sporty/hipster look. Leggings, my 10th Tribe beanie, leather jacket and oversized my recycled leather and fur mittens. I also sported the special collaboration tee from fashion blogger Song Of Style x Shop eLUXE called “Do Epic Chic”.
