Right Where I Wanna Be

FullSizeRender (13)

Life is all about making decisions and taking chances. For the past couple of months, I’ve been struggling to make a big decision that had become pretty darn obvious that I needed to make.

FullSizeRender (16)As much as making big moves in life are incredibly scary, intimidating, etc., they also make you feel alive. I’ve learned in my life thus far that if I’m not happy, I need to take a look at my life, reassess the things that make me happy vs. those that do not and have the courage to eliminate what is making me unhappy. Whether it’s family, friends, lovers, work, etc., all these elements should add something positive to your life and if they do not, then one must have the courage to make the changes necessary in their life to get rid of that negativity.

FullSizeRender (17)

After months of pondering, I finally decided to make that decision I had been putting off for a while. The uncertainty that comes along with making that decision is scary but also exhilarating and freeing. I can honestly say that I am now right where I wanna be. Excited for the adventures ahead!

Aga Khan Museum

m3

The architecture of this place is what had me wanting to go for a visit for quite some time now. The Aga Khan Museum in Toronto is something else. I couldn’t believe that such a unique place was located just north of downtown. When you visit the Aga Khan Museum you feel like you’ve been transported in a completely different world, a futurist world that is. I love the shape of the building, its clean lines as well as white and grey stones. I hope I’ll get to return to this magical place in the near future.

Happy Easter

FullSizeRender (43)

Happy Easter guys! Though Easter doesn’t actually mean much to me personally, I’m grateful for the day off. This weekend is all about relaxing, enjoying being home and planning for upcoming travels.

I’m beyond excited to be going to Japan at the end of May (one of my lifelong dreams, one more thing to cross off the bucket list, yay!) but in the meantime, I also have to plan a trip to NYC and LA. So there’s a lot of booking and organizing to do in the next couple of weeks. These past couple of weekends, have been so incredibly busy for me with traveling, planning, writing, etc. I’m hoping this extra day off will allow me to unwind a bit as well.

One thing’s for sure, I’m pretty darn stoked to be home for the weekend and will make the most of it.

Now off to brunch in the hood wearing my new favorite BENCH dress, it’s truly the best thing to wear on the weekend!

The Jogger

FullSizeRender (31)

I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with jogging pants. As a kid, they were my go-to post swimming team practices and pre-skipping competition (yes, I used to skip and partake in skipping competitions!). But after high-school, the thought of wearing jogging pants in public or a matching jogger pant and top haunted me… until last week that is, when Industry Active sent me this super rad jogger outfit and I tried it on.

What’s different now? 1) I’m old enough and have enough confidence in myself to wear whatever I want. 2) I think this jogger outfit can easily be styled any which way, either dressed up or down. 3) After wearing heels, skinny jeans and tight clothes non-stop for 10+ years, it’s nice to wear something a little more loose-fitting once in a while.

I decided to give this matching set more of a rock n’ roll vibe with my faux leather jacket and custom Nike iD Internationalist sneakers. I honestly think that there’s a way of wearing joggers that still makes you look put together and still looks like you made an effort in the morning when you got out of bed and got dressed.

What are your thoughts on jogging pants?

Time Flies

FullSizeRender (96)

Is it just me or did January fly by? It feels like the first month of the year went by in a flash. I usually hate January but I honestly didn’t really feel it this year. Maybe it was because I was busier than ever, maybe it’s because it wasn’t that cold in Toronto or maybe it’s because I’ve changed my outlook on winter. Whatever combination of things it was, I’m grateful the year is off to such a great start.

Everyone I’ve been talking to lately is all about making 2016 “their” year, making it a year of positivity, go-getting, etc. I think it’s so inspiring to see that and be surrounded by such motivated individuals.

If time keeps flying by, it’ll be summer in no-time!

Wearing some of my favorite winter items on today’s post. The leopard coat just keeps coming back every year, I just can’t seem to get enough. Love this new BENCH scarf and hat as well as this new KOMONO watch.

How was your January? Is your year off to a great start?

Checkmate

e4

Spending time in Edmonton this past weekend has been amazing. I’m embarrassed to say that the last time I set foot in Edmonton was back in 1993. I still remember visiting the West Edmonton Mall and how cold it was in the winter time but I’m so grateful to have finally rediscovered this little gem in Alberta. Edmonton is a beautiful city located on the North Saskatchewan River. Though it may be the 5th largest city in Canada, the city is surrounded by a lot of nature and beautiful running trails all along the waterfront. The food scene here is really coming into its own and the vibe is surprisingly really cool. I didn’t expect to have such a pleasant time here but I really did. Check back soon for a travel post on the city!

I found this big chess game in Churchill Square, just beside the Art Gallery of Alberta (a stunning building in the downtown core). Churchill Square is a cute little spot where you can sit and people watch, play basketball, checkers, ping pong, etc. Couldn’t help play a little game of chess while I was there!

An Afternoon Spent With Bisons

b3

I was back in Winnipeg, MB over the weekend. During the past couple of years, I’ve had the opportunity to travel to the Canadian prairies a handful of times. However, this was the first time I actually got a few days off while in the city. Though I was plagued by a cold (I blame the dramatic change in climate during the week and the snowfall in Winnipeg), I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go spend an afternoon with bisons.

b4

FortWhyte Alive is a nature sanctuary located just a few minutes away from downtown Winnipeg. They have a farm, a bison heard, lakes, a handful of trails and all sorts of fun activities for the whole family.

b5

Seeing the majestic bison in person is quite special, I had never seen one before. There were some cute babies in the heard that kept following their mother’s every move. It was really neat to get so close to these animals. It’s sad to think that man almost hunted them to extinction. I’m happy to see that people are now working to keep these beautiful animals alive.

Northern Ontario

t6

Happy Thanksgiving to all Canadians!! Hope you’re enjoying your long weekend!

Spent the past week in Northern Ontario traveling for the television show we’re filming across the Canada. On our off days, I’ve been trying to explore each city as much as I can.

This past weekend, I was in Thunder Bay. My last visit here dates back to 2006, while I was on tour across North America, tour managing two bands. I didn’t get much time to visit, so I wanted to make sure I hit up as many spots as I could this past weekend.

t1

I loved rediscovering the downtown core, some of their newer restaurants and coffee shops. I particularly liked hanging out on Bay St. and Algoma St., it’s a sector that seems to be really developing. It has a lot of Finnish and Scandinavian shops but also a ton of cool places to eat and hang out. Calico Coffee Shop was my go-to hang out spot on Saturday and The Growing Season Juice Collective is without doubt my favorite healthy restaurant in the city. They make amazing vegetarian and vegan dishes as well as healthy cold-pressed juices.

I also really enjoyed visiting their comic shop, the Comic Zone, a place where you’ll find amazing vinyls, dvds, comic books, action figures, etc. So many gems in this shop! Nordcity was also really neat. I think the architecture and the look of the shop really goes well with Northern Ontario.

We also went for a run on Sunday and checked out the Terry Fox Monument, so make sure you check back soon for a full recap of Thunder Bay’s running routes for my #13Cities13Runs blog series, they are truly beautiful!

Dress for Fall

FullSizeRender102

Fall is here and I’ve found the perfect dress for the season. A dress that will keep me warm while still looking stylish. Not a big fan of tights so I will keep rocking the bare legs for a little while longer, hopefully I can keep doing so as I cross the country from east to west for the next seven weeks. Hopefully we won’t be running into snow along the way… Fingers crossed! This dress will be perfect for staying in and cozying up on colder days but also for dressing it up with a pair of boots or even heels! Plus, the best part, it has a hood! It has now become my indispensable dress for the fall!

Will you keep rocking dresses this season?

Transitioning into Fall

FullSizeRender (74)

It’s that time of year again… The inevitable is just around the corner. Only a few more days before the official start of fall. It’s been weird having to take my pants back out of my closet, I can wholeheartedly say that I wish I could live somewhere where I could were shorts and dresses all year round (Hello California!!). Though fall is a great time to be fashionable, I would rather not have to resort to pants and warm sweaters. That said, my latest Anine Bing purchase is sure to keep me warm throughout the coming months, it’s super comfy and cozy. What are you doing to transition into fall? What is on your fall style wish list?
