Salton Sea

FullSizeRender (10)

I LOVE exploring! After hearing so much about this place I finally headed to the Salton Sea last week for a little bit of exploring.

FullSizeRender (4)

We decided to drive around the entire body of water, stopping at different locations whenever we felt like it. The desolation is real at the Salton Sea. What used to be a resort area in the 50s is now almost completely abandoned. The smell of decay and strong salty stench is present everywhere you walk around. There are also an innumerable amount of dead fish and birds on the waterfront due to the water’s salinity.

While we were driving around we saw a film crew shooting. The area is a renown location for movie, music video and television shoots.

Over the years, many plans have been proposed to help rehabilitate the Salton Sea but not much progress has been made. It’s a truly beautiful place with so much potential, it’s sad to see that nothing is really being done to save this body of water. With its amazing desert location, I totally understand why it was a vacation spot 60+ years ago. A must-visit for sure!

Are You Game?

t7

If there’s one thing that watching the Olympics has for me done this year is encouraged me to be even more active… If that’s even possible!

t1

Lately I’ve been paying more and more attention to tennis because there are so many Canadians leading the way in the sport.

t3

t2

Growing up, tennis was a pretty important part of my summers. I took countless tennis clinics, took part in weeks of tennis camp, attended the Rogers Cup in Montreal and watched my fair share of tennis tournaments on television.

t4

t12

I stopped playing tennis during my teens but have been playing on and off as an adult. Lately, with all the attention Canadian athletes have been getting, it has motivated me to get back on the court. Tennis is such a great workout and way to spend time outdoors, I wish I would have been out again sooner. The city of Toronto also has a handful of free tennis courts around the city that are perfect for either beginners or those wanting to polish their playing skills.

t13

I’m excited to be back on the court brushing up on my skills. I’m currently looking for a tennis partner in the city, so hit me up if you’re game!

Dreamy Summer Picnic

FullSizeRender

I have always dreamed of having a Pinterest-worthy picnic in the park. Last week, my summer picnic dreams came true with my lovely friend Aylin (that you may recognize from my hairspiration posts!). She suggested we get dressed up and make flower crowns. I’m no Martha Stewart but I have always loved making crafts. Last December, I used Pinterest to make all of the DIY decorations for my wedding and they turned out to be a hit.

No hang out with Aylin would be complete without a bunch of laughs and us acting like complete goofs. Dressing lady-like is one thing but acting lady-like is a whole other. Our amazing photographer Nelly (thehogtowntable.com) who made the entire shoot and afternoon possible brought us some delicious homemade beverages and pies to complete the picnic (you can see her yummy drink recipe here).

I love when friends challenge me to do something outside of my comfort zone. Making these beautiful crowns was tricky but allowed me to be creative and do something different. I’m pretty stoked on how they turned out!

Right Where I Wanna Be

FullSizeRender (13)

Life is all about making decisions and taking chances. For the past couple of months, I’ve been struggling to make a big decision that had become pretty darn obvious that I needed to make.

FullSizeRender (16)As much as making big moves in life are incredibly scary, intimidating, etc., they also make you feel alive. I’ve learned in my life thus far that if I’m not happy, I need to take a look at my life, reassess the things that make me happy vs. those that do not and have the courage to eliminate what is making me unhappy. Whether it’s family, friends, lovers, work, etc., all these elements should add something positive to your life and if they do not, then one must have the courage to make the changes necessary in their life to get rid of that negativity.

FullSizeRender (17)

After months of pondering, I finally decided to make that decision I had been putting off for a while. The uncertainty that comes along with making that decision is scary but also exhilarating and freeing. I can honestly say that I am now right where I wanna be. Excited for the adventures ahead!

Festival Season

f7

It’s officially festival season and when you work in music like I have been for the past 10+ years, it’s basically like Christmas or your favorite time of year. Festival season is a great time to be outdoors, hang out with friends and also discover new music.

f4

Growing up, I would save all the money I would make working at camp to be able to buy Vans Warped Tour tickets or outdoor concert tickets. When I started working in music and started obtaining media passes, I was so incredibly stoked to be able to spend my summers traveling across North America at some of the raddest music festivals. Some of the most memorable festivals that I attended were Festival d’été de Québec, the inaugural Osheaga festival and going on tour with Vans Warped Tour for a couple of dates.

f6

These days festival season also means festival fashion. Come to think of it, I would always pre-plan my festival outfits even as a teen. I would pick out my favorite pair of skate shoes, pants, tee and accessories. I guess not much has changed over the years, except for the actual clothes I wear to a festival have evolved quite a bit 😉

f3

If I were to put together my favorite festival outfit for this year, this would be it! Dressing for a cause is also pretty cool. I love incorporating a few TOMS pieces into my festival wardrobe. Their One for One policy of giving back makes me feel good about wearing these pieces. For each eyewear purchased, sight is restored for a person in need and for each pair of shoes purchased, a pair of shoes is given to a child in need.

Happy festival season everyone!

Washing Workout Clothes

t8

With the amount of time I now spend working out every week, I also spend a lot more time washing my workout clothes than I ever did before. I used to throw my workout clothes in with all of my other laundry whenever I did my wash but realized that it often didn’t get the stink out. If I also happened to throw in my husband’s workout clothes in at the same time, the stench was so strong that it would rub off on all of my regular clothes, which was no fun.

I also found myself going to my next workout and only a couple of minutes into it, my clothes would start smelling again. Unbeknownst to me, there is a thing called the “Rebloom” effect, which is quite common for workout gear because they are made from synthetic fabrics. Though great for sports and movement, these fabrics are not so great for odor. I quickly realized that because of these fibers, my workout clothes became odor magnets and would require special care.

t5

I gave the Tide + Downy Odor Defense Collection a try because I was looking for a way to avoid the “Rebloom” effect at all cost. What is great about the collection is that it cleans the garments right down to the fiber level to make sure the odor is eliminated for good.

t3

The product is simple to use. The Tide Pods Plus Febreeze Odor Defense is a 4-in-1 laundry detergent pac that removes odors from fabrics while also removing residue and surface stains.

t1

The Tide Odor Rescue With Febreeze Odor Defense is an in-wash booster that deep cleans the odor and dirt that has gotten trapped in the fibers. All you have to do is add it to your wash along with the pods.

t4

The final product to add with the detergent at the beginning of the wash cycle is the Downy Fresh Protect With Febreeze Odor Defense. This will not only eliminate the stinky smell from your activewear but will also seal in the odor protection technology so that your clothes feel fresh all day long.

t2

t7

t6

The products were super easy to use. All I had to do was to put the pods and beads in the water before adding my workout clothes. As soon as I took my clothes out of the washer and dryer, I could automatically smell and feel the difference. No more stench. Now I can confidently go to my workouts and not worry about my clothes “Reblooming” anymore!

Live Out There

p5

Life is too short to be indoors. If I could, I would spend every single minute of every day outdoors, exploring the beautiful world around me.

p6

I recently discovered an amazing Canadian company called Live Out There. Their philosophy immediately resonated with me. The reason why the company started is to provide great gear for those wanting to spend as much time as possible in the great outdoors. In addition to providing great gear, they also focus a lot on local Canadian brands, making sure that was is made right here gets out.

p10

Live Out There recently started their personal shopping program who’s goal is to inspire people to get outside. With so many of us spending our days in offices and in front of computers, we could all use a little extra help to get out there. What’s great about their personal shopping is that you can shop based on budget, style, comfort and performance. What’s also neat is that you’ll connect with one of their specialists who will guide you along the way of your purchases and who will suggest some pieces that could be fitting for your needs. The service is free and offered by real outdoors-folk who truly walk the walk. An additional detail I particularly like is that there is no obligation to buy.

p4

To celebrate the launch of their personal shopping program, I’m giving you the chance to win $500 worth of gear and apparel from Live Out There. Check my post on Instagram today here for all the details! The winner will be notified by June 30th 2016. Must be a Canadian resident to win.

Get Lost

FullSizeRender(2)This summer, I want to get lost: Lost in a new country, in a new scenery, in a new adventure. Summer is when I feel most alive. I cannot wait to explore some beautiful new locations near and far away from home.

I’m obsessed with the Tuck Shop Trading Co‘s x Bather Trunk Co. first ever swimwear collection. This GET LOST bathing suit is the perfect addition to my summer travels. The line was inspired by vintage maps that both designers are fascinated by. They worked with both Bather Trunk Co’s Kyle Kaminsky and Bathing Belle’s Danica Salajko on the design of this swimwear line (they designed some similar swim trunks for men as well!).

Who’s ready to get lost with me this summer?

You can support these local Toronto brands and designers by checking them out here.

Aga Khan Museum

m3

The architecture of this place is what had me wanting to go for a visit for quite some time now. The Aga Khan Museum in Toronto is something else. I couldn’t believe that such a unique place was located just north of downtown. When you visit the Aga Khan Museum you feel like you’ve been transported in a completely different world, a futurist world that is. I love the shape of the building, its clean lines as well as white and grey stones. I hope I’ll get to return to this magical place in the near future.

Happy Easter

FullSizeRender (43)

Happy Easter guys! Though Easter doesn’t actually mean much to me personally, I’m grateful for the day off. This weekend is all about relaxing, enjoying being home and planning for upcoming travels.

I’m beyond excited to be going to Japan at the end of May (one of my lifelong dreams, one more thing to cross off the bucket list, yay!) but in the meantime, I also have to plan a trip to NYC and LA. So there’s a lot of booking and organizing to do in the next couple of weeks. These past couple of weekends, have been so incredibly busy for me with traveling, planning, writing, etc. I’m hoping this extra day off will allow me to unwind a bit as well.

One thing’s for sure, I’m pretty darn stoked to be home for the weekend and will make the most of it.

Now off to brunch in the hood wearing my new favorite BENCH dress, it’s truly the best thing to wear on the weekend!
