Today was the first of many travel days to come in next month. My first stop was North Bay, Ontario. Though I’ve traveled to most of Ontario, I’m a newbie here in North Bay. It was a quick pit stop on the way to the FME festival located in Rouyn-Noranda.
North Bay definitely has a small town vibe but it’s located conveniently beside the Nipissing Lake, one of Ontario’s gorgeous lakes. I had the chance to walk around a bit during the afternoon and the water looked so calm and inviting. If I had more time, I would have totally rented a kayak and explored the area a little more or hung out at the beautiful beach below.
North Bay has several quaint restaurants located on the waterfront. It also has a beautiful bike path right by the lake. I wish we could have stayed here longer just to explore the beautiful surroundings. Maybe next time… 🙂
Next stop: Rouyn-Noranda. Then back to Toronto for 3 days, followed by Miami, Montreal and NYC! September, I’m ready for ya!
Last day in Toronto for over a week! I’m heading WAY up north in Quebec to Rouyn Noranda for the third time for their annual FME music festival for work. It’s always a big cultural shock whenever I head up there (they have signs for skidoo crossings!), just because it’s such a different city and vibe. I also have to make sure I pack some warm clothes, it tends to get pretty chilly at night. The town is pretty much as far north as Winnipeg!
Started my day with some tunes from Modern Primitive. There’s just something really catchy about the two EPs they released last year. The band is about to record their debut album in the fall. Really looking forward to it!
For today’s outfit, I’m wearing my gorgeous statement necklace from Lionette NY called the Venus necklace. Also wearing some really bright colors – I love my neon poncho from Urban Outfitters. It’s light, flowy and really pretty!
Since my cleanse last week, I’ve been staying as healthy as possible, making most meals myself and eating lot’s of fruits and veggies every day. Last night, I made a pretty great salad with apples, almonds, blue benedictin cheese, beets, avocado, cucumber, fresh mint and homemade dressing (olive oil, red grape vinegar, maple syrup, salt and pepper). It was absolutely delicious! Nothing more refreshing than a light salad in the evening!
I’ve been spending my Friday in meetings and shooting new promos for season 2 of BRBR. For the promos, I decided to wear the lovely new dress that Offner surprised me with earlier in the week. I’ve never owned any French Connection items, so I’m thrilled to finally have one of their lovely dresses in my closet. I’m not gonna lie, he has pretty amazing taste for a man. I’m a very lucky woman!
I’m off to Ottawa for 24hrs and then back for a few days before I leave for some more festival coverage in Northern Quebec. Looking forward to a nice dinner and brunch with friends on the weekend. What are your plans?
Monday, oh Monday! Today I received the official confirmation that I’ll be heading to Montreal to cover the Polaris Prize and the Francofolies as well as the Festival d’Été de Québec and the OFF Festival at the end of June and beginning of July. I couldn’t be more excited to be covering both of these festivals. Stay tuned for deets on what I’ll be doing while I’m there, livestreams, etc. There’s nothing quite like music festival season. It’s my favorite time of year! 🙂
For today’s outfit, I decided to go with the earthy tones. I also had to wear my new Jaci Necklace from Biko Jewellery. It’s definitely my new favorite thing. I love the fact that Corrine mixed beads and little washers on a small dainty gold chain!
Hope you’ve been enjoying the stellar weather in Toronto these past couple of days!!
What a blast the Canadian Tulip Festival show was this weekend! It was so great to see everyone who came out to watch Pandaléon, Hotel Morphée & Hollerado play. Hollerado are such a fun band, perfect for this free outdoor show! Thanks to all the bands who took part in the festival and everyone who came out to support them and BRBR. It amazes me how far we’ve come since first launching BRBR exactly one year ago. To see that big BRBR banner and hundreds of people having a good time, really warms my heart… And it’s only the beginning!
Since I was hosting the event along with my two colleagues, I made sure to dress appropriately! I wore my rad southwestern inspired Zara skirt, my new fabric wedge Zara boots, my new Karl Lagerfeld ‘7’ watch and a bunch of Biko jewels.
May is finally here!!! I love the month of May because all the trees and flowers start blooming. It also means summer is right around the corner, patios are opening up and we can finally start stripping some layers off! May will be a very busy month for me. I’m off to Ottawa tomorrow to present a free outdoor show on Friday live from the Canadian Tulip Festival. Hollerado, Hotel Morphée and Pandaléon will all be performing. The show starts at 8pm. For those of you who can’t make it out in Ottawa, you’ll be able to stream the show online on BRBR‘s facebook page. All the event deets are here.
Following my trip to Ottawa, I’ll be heading to Montreal for a few days and in just over three weeks, I’ll be going back to California!! If you ask me, it’s also the best way to celebrate my upcoming birthday!! I couldn’t be more excited to hang out with friends, go surfing, shop, etc.
For today’s outfit, I kept it simple with a white moto jacket, plain white tee, printed denim pants and wedge sneakers.
This week is a crazy week for music in Toronto with Canadian Music Week! It’s only fitting that this week’s ear candy features an all-Canadian line-up. Here are my favorite tracks and videos of the week!
Ain’t No Love is a four-piece electro-hip hop act from Montreal/Toronto. They’re at Canadian Music Week this week and if it weren’t for my work commitments, I can guarantee that I’d be at their show dancing. Absolutely love their track “Gone Already”. Definitely something special about it. Check them out here:
Diamond Rings stopped by the studio this week. Though his latest record Free Dimensional came out a little while ago, it’s still one of my favorites. His music is super uplifting, dancy and positive. I’m obsessed with his track “I’m Just Me”. I couldn’t be more stoked to be seeing him perform at the Sirius XM Indies tonight!
Got a new found appreciation for the Montreal rapper trio Loud x Lary x Ajustafter seeing them perform last night at our showcase. I love their bilingual flow, clever lyrics and A-Justice’s rad beats. You should definitely keep them on your radar if their music speaks to you. Live, they can definitely make you dance! Respect.
It’s that time of year again! It’s Canadian Music Fest! Several thousand artists are flocking to Toronto to play the city’s numerous venues for the next couple of nights, hoping they get discovered by a international festival booker, record label, agent, etc. I’ve had the chance to attend Canadian Music Fest since 2006, wearing different hats (label rep, a&r, publicist, host, etc.) and have always discovered great artists every year. With that many artists playing at the same time, it’s always difficult to arrange a schedule and a must-see list. So I figured, I’d give you guys a little help. Here are some must-see artists at this year’s CMF:
1- THE BALCONIES – The most promising up and coming rock/pop outfit from Toronto. Best vocals, stellar guitar shredding and all-around amazing performers. They’ll rock your socks off! If I wasn’t at my own showcase, I’d be there front row centre, singing and dancing!
Thursday March 21, 2013 @ 10:00PM Lee’s Palace
2- PETER PETER – His sophomore effort Une version améliorée de la tristesse was in my top 3 albums of 2012. His record has been generating buzz not only across Canada but also in the states and internationally. Hope you’ll also fall in love with the electro-tinged sounds of this stellar songwriter!
Thursday March 21, 2013 @ 11:00PM Gladstone Hotel
3- MISTEUR VALAIRE – Mega talented multi-instrumentalists from Montreal who will make you shake your tail feather!
Friday March 22, 2013 @ 8:00PM Sneaky Dee’s
4- CHVRCHES – Outfit from Glasgow who are buzzing all around the world with their dream-pop tunes. Listen to “Recover” and you’ll be sold!
Wednesday March 20, 2013 @ 10:00PM Virgin Mobile Mod Club
5- SUUNS – Trippy, moody, post-punk and electro hybrid band from Montreal that will send you into a frenzy!
Saturday March 23, 2013 @ 1:00AM Lee’s Palace
6- AIN’T NO LOVE – Love the electro hiphop sounds of the Montreal/Toronto quartet. Definitely something special about this act!
Thursday March 21, 2013 @ 12:50AM Drake Underground
7- KARIM OUELLET – A talented multi-instrumentalist from Quebec City who fuses pop, rock, soul and funk in his songwriting. His second record Fox, topped the Canadian iTunes charts, surpassing even Celine Dion!
Thursday March 21, 2013 @ 10:00PM Gladstone Hotel
8- TEENAGE KICKS – Toronto rock outfit with hooky choruses and melodies. If you’re looking for one sweaty rock show, they’re the band to see!
Thursday March 21, 2013 @ 12:10AM Horseshoe Tavern
9- ROCK FOREST – I recently discovered this four-piece from Montreal. They’ve got dancy tracks that blend electro, rock and pop together.
Wednesday March 20, 2013 @ 12:00AM Neutral Lounge
10- AUSTRA – Their second record Olympia will be coming out in June. Katie Stelmanis’ unique vocals + their moody electro-pop sounds are the perfect match.
Saturday March 23, 2013 @ :PM The Danforth Music Hall
After shooting the show, I rushed over to see my first ever Pink Tartan runway show. The place was packed! The show started off with some bright colors, long flowy coats and 50s & 60s-inspired flower prints. I really loved the bold blues, purples and pinks. The show continued with some lovely fur coats: some even had mixed colors. There were also a few leopard pieces, a handful of black and white dresses and coats, shimmery fabrics and lot’s of fur collars. One of the items I loved most, were the long leather gloves that all the models were wearing to accompany the coats and dresses. My top piece was without a doubt the multi-colored long fur jacket. Though I don’t usually wear real fur myself, I still really loved the overall look of this coat! You can see a few pics from the show below. Apologies for the quality of these photos, they really don’t do the collection justice. Looking forward to more Pink Tartan runway shows!
I also had the chance to meet a handful of lovely Toronto fashion bloggers including one of my recent favorites: Dainty Girl. She looked stellar with her black and white dress and Myles Sexton custom spike headband!
Today, I’ll be spending part of my day at the Marriott shooting interviews for BRBR. Really looking forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new people! I decided to go with a bold red jacket, black and white stripes and a few gold/brass accessories.

Happy Monday everyone! Today is the start of one heck of a week for me! Not only is it Canadian Music Week, but it’s also World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto. I’ve been attending Canadian Music Week since 2006 but this is only my second season attending Fashion Week in Toronto. I couldn’t be more excited to be splitting my time between two of my biggest passions: Music & Fashion. Tonight, I’ll be heading to the Bustle and Pink Tartan runway shows before going to see Mackage and Joe Fresh later in the week. Also this week, I’ll be hitting up conferences at the Toronto Marriott for CMW as well as doing a bunch of interviews and live music sessions with artists. Thursday, we’re taping a special BRBR show live from our showcase at The Gladstone Hotel. There are still some tickets left, so if you’d like to attend or for more info, click here. Friday, I’ll also be covering the INDIES for the show. Basically, no rest until next week!
So to prepare for a crazy week, I got a super cute manicure yesterday in Liberty Village at X-Nail & Spa. They gave me an ombré blue and green shellac manicure that changes color like a mood ring depending on your temperature. I couldn’t be more stoked about how it turned out!
For today’s BRBR shoot and first batch of runway shows tonight, I wanted to wear some of my favorite colorful spring items I recently purchased and paired it up with my favorite Lionette jewels.
