Happy to Pass it On

For as long as I can remember, spring has always been synonymous with cleaning and updating my home. Growing up, I loved this time of year because it meant that we could finally open the windows, bring back out my summer clothes and go through all the things I no longer wanted. My mom would always make us put all of the items we no longer wanted in a donation bag that she would then bring to the local Value Village.

To this day, the tradition has remained. Twice a year, I take the time to go through my apartment to clean out some of the items that I no longer want. Whether those items are clothes, decorations, furniture or electronic appliances, I try to keep clutter to a minimum by picking out the items that I no longer use. When I find such an item, I’m #HappyToPassItOn. I have a rule that I always abide by: If I haven’t worn or used an item in the last 6 months, then I probably don’t need it lying around collecting dust.

Living in the Parkdale neighborhood of Toronto these last couple of years has made me even more adamant about donating. It’s sometimes hard to part ways with some of the things that have sentimental value but I find comfort in knowing that there are individuals in my area that could find value in some of the items I no longer use.

So this spring, I’m giving away lots of clothes. My personal style has really evolved in the past couple of months so I’ve decided to pass on some items that I no longer wear.

I am a big fan of shoes but I’ve also realized that I have a few go-to pairs and that the rest of my collection always stays in the closet.

I have also decided to go through my book collection and get rid of some of my favorite books, knowing that I’ll unfortunately never have time to read them again.

Finally, having worked in the music industry for over a decade, I’ve accumulated a lot of records over the years. That said, I’ve never purchased a turntable to play them on so I think time has come to let them go.

I love bringing my donations to Value Village, knowing that they will find another loving home. Donating is an incredibly freeing experience, which is why I’m always #HappyToPassItOn!
