It’s been great to be back in Toronto this week. So lovely catching up with friends and people I haven’t seen in a while while also trying to get back to my fitness routine as much as possible. I’m also trying to do all of my favorite things in the city like eat at my favorite restaurants, get some of my favorite juices, etc., all because this stay home will be short-lived. Being home has also felt strange, strange knowing that I’m here for only a week. It barely gives me enough time to unpack and do all the things I have to do before heading back out for another two-month stretch. After the two-month trip, I’m only home for a few days before going away to get married, so life has been hectic to say the least but also incredibly exciting. Being away this summer has really put so many things into perspective and has made me realize a lot of things about myself and the future, things that I’ll be able to share with you all when the time is right. For now, I’m taking it day by day, and make the most of this amazing journey that I’m on!
I don’t usually set myself seasonal goals but I’ve decided that I was going to do so for the summer.
My goal this summer: be close to the water, as often as possible.
The one thing I want to do most in the summer is be outdoors. I don’t have the luxury of living somewhere where it’s nice 365 days a year, so when it finally gets warm and sunny out, all I want to do is be outdoors and preferably somewhere by the ocean or close to a body of water. It’s impossible for me to be focused and concentrate indoors when it’s so nice out!
Because Toronto is located right on Lake Ontario, I try to go for runs on the Martin Goodman Trail several times a week and bike close to the waterfront. Any time I can go swimming in a lake, wakeboard or SUP, you’ll find me on the water. I’m also very excited to be spending a full month in California this summer, so that I can fill up on Vitamin D and get my fair share of ocean time. Can’t wait to just walk to the beach in my favorite Sanuk flip flops (pictured below!), wearing my bathing suit, carrying a picnic and a surfboard. I can’t wait to smell the salt air, feel the ocean breeze, watch the waves and then go for a surf or swim!
With summer right around the corner, it’s time to start summer planning! After having spent the spring primarily at home, I’m excited for all the travels that are coming my way this summer. For the first time since I was a teenager, I will actually get one full month of vacation, I can hardly believe it! I couldn’t be more excited to be spending this time in my favorite place on the planet, you guessed it: California!
This upcoming trip will be a fun one since we’ll be incorporating a mini road trip along the way, spending time in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada. We’ve already started planning for it and I can’t hardly wait! We’ll also be spending time in my favorite little beach town – Encinitas as well as Los Angeles and also going out to Palm Springs for the first time ever. If you have any travel recommendations, or must-see things while we’re there, please send them my way. I’ll be publishing a special series of blogs during and after the trip, so lot’s of travel tips coming your way this summer!
Today’s outfit, couldn’t be more representative of the California state of mind. This is the perfect post-surf and biking outfit. Boyfriend jeans, a California tee and a pair of brand new Sanuks. I love these new ones called “The Boardwalk“, they’re the perfect summer colour! Comfort and class, all wrapped into one!
Is it just me or has January flown by? What a busy month it has been for me. I definitely started 2015 with a very strong work ethic and have been busting my butt clocking long hours and putting in all of my heart, knowledge and creativity into my work. With so much going on and so much coming up (got tons of traveling coming up in the next couple of months, so excited to share with y’all new travel blog posts following these travels), it’s hard not to work hard. As a kid, my mother would always say, “do your best and f*ck the rest“… Yes, maybe not the “f*ck” part when I was a kid but would always encourage me to work hard and do the best that I can at everything I did.
During one of my meetings today, I had a moment where I couldn’t believe that after all these years of work, I was where I am today. It was a weird out of body moment, where I was looking at myself and what I was doing in disbelief. My career holds a very important place in my life and the only reason I’ve attained the job status I have today is because I’ve worked my butt off, not counting my hours, working without getting paid for years while paying my dues and then when finally attaining my first real job, working hard to get to the next level.
I think having a hard working ethic will lead to positive results no matter what area in your life. Whether it’s your career, family, personal goals, health, etc. without putting work into it, you won’t get any results. As of late, I’ve been focusing a lot of my energy on becoming the healthiest person that I can be and with that comes work. By registering to a 10k run, comes work. By wanting to eat clean every day, comes work. If you work hard in life, it will pay off! That’s what I’ve always believed in and hopefully always will. Who’s with me?
The leopard coat (faux leopard that is!) is officially back out. I forgot just how warm it was and how much I love it with my red hair. Kinda obsessed with this jumpsuit I recently found at H&M. It’s the first time I find one that’s actually long enough for me. I kinda feel like a could be a mechanic wearing this jumpsuit, a dorky mechanic maybe… Happy Monday! 😀
Take me to the highest level. As the end of 2014 draws near, I reflect on this past year and all of the amazing things that have happened and what I can do to make 2015 even more stellar. I feel that as humans, we always desire to take things to the next level, escalate… I think it’s almost engrained in us to become better at everything, make more money, obtain a better job, etc. Though there are many things I want to improve (including this very blog!!), I think one of my resolutions for the new year will be to take things to the next level but in the most human kind of way. I want to keeping growing as a person and keep working on becoming the best person that I can be. I want to surround myself with people that are positive so that together we can take life to the next level!
Keeping warm with some of my favorite things today! Love my new oversized camel sweater from Zara. It goes perfectly with my SUPER warm checkered camel & burgundy scarf that I got at H&M. H&M has become one of my go-to places to pick up a bunch of scarves, hats and gloves for winter. They’re all great to mix and match and also super affordable. I also added my Zara bag and my leopard pumps to complete this camel outfit!
Being on set today made me want to work on styling projects again so badly! Seeing the steamers, changing rooms, backdrops and all the lights made me excited for future styling. Styling oneself is great but styling others is 10x more fun and exciting! I love being challenged and finding the perfect look. Feeling excited at the thought of doing more in the future 😀
With the clocks rolled back and the end of Daylight Saving Time, it can only mean one thing – winter is right around the corner! Since I have yet to runaway to California, Mexico, Florida, Portugal or anywhere warmer than Toronto, it looks like I’ll have to endure one more Canadian winter.
As of late, I’ve really tried to make the best of the season I so hate by a) traveling a lot b) practicing a multitude of winter sports and c) having fun with my winter style. Not an easy feat to look stylish but also stay toasty and warm. On the weeks that get really cold, I really couldn’t care less if I look like an Abominable Snowman, as long as I am warm and my extremities aren’t freezing. Luckily, winter doesn’t get too harsh in Toronto and we usually don’t end up having much snow downtown. It’s still feasible to go outside while looking relatively cute. Plus with so many brands now making amazing threads for winter, there’s definitely a way to stay stylish even in subzero weather.
Here are some of the things I’m coveting for my winter wardrobe this year:
Fall is such an amazing time for outdoor walks. Though I don’t like the falling temperatures, I do really enjoy spending time outdoors and seeing nature change right before our eyes. The talented Toronto-based photographer Aleyah Solomon and I decided to do a special fall-themed photo shoot last week, exploring nature in downtown Toronto. Yes, there are some very beautiful quiet spots in the city where you can walk or bike in the “woods”. We called our exploratory shoot the “Nature Walk”. Here is the first look from our walk in the city.
