Stoked on my funky new Uranium necklace. Since I can’t afford a pair of real leather pants (like these dreamy ones for example – WANT) at the moment, I’m sticking with the faux leather slacks. I got these last year at H&M for $40 and they’re one of my best purchases ever!
A busy night at the tents for me last night! I’m really happy I was able to catch almost all the runway shows.
My night started off with a refreshing show by Klaxon Howl. It was nice to see a lot of music folks in the crowd for the show. I loved their “mise en scène” for the presentation of their collection. The park bench, lamppost and bicycle were all nice details. I rarely get to see a mens only line, so it was a nice change. The models were either clean shaven or had big beards (so trendy right now!) and a variety of hairstyles. I really appreciated all of Matt Robinson’s dress shirts: the colors he chose, the prints and the fabrics. I think he has a very modern take on workwear. I was happy to hear that all of his lines are made locally and by hand, which is something that I really respect. All in all, his designs represent to me the quintessential urban guy, the one who wants to dress with an edge but also be fashionable.
My night continued with a showing from Maison Matthew Gallagher. I loved his opening show projection – a dreamy beach! Right away I was transported into the warmth of summer. The show started off with beautiful white dresses with sheer and light fabrics. I really liked that he incorporated light prints underneath the white on certain designs. My favorite pieces came a little later on in the show, I loved the colored crop tops and fitted long skirts. I credit him for using an interesting mix of fabrics. All of the designs he presented were very feminin and suit the models really well. I liked that they didn’t overpower his designs too much with lot’s of jewelry and accessories. Promising for someone in his late 20s!
I had really been awaiting the third runway show last night: Mackage! As I’ve mentioned before, their FW13 show last season had been my favorite. Right from the beginning of their 15-minute presentation, I was in full lust mode! I particularly liked their choice of earthy colors that were so well coordinated with either shorts or skirts, simple black pumps and their stellar line of bags. I really liked their idea of adding metallic belts and neck pieces as accessories (um hello gold runway!!). Their jackets are as stunning as ever and seemed very lightweight. I loved this season’s combination trenches and also all the effortlessly cool pieces they had created for men (who said ready-to-wear and comfortable pieces couldn’t be hot!). Their crop tops and sheer tops were awesome. Props to Mackage for making bold coral orange jackets, skirts and bags. My hat goes off to these two designers again… What a sexy line! I would wear every piece in the collection! Now I better start saving up, SS14 is right around the corner!
To finish off the night, I headed to the most crowded show of the week: Joe Fresh. It’s always nice seeing so many people show up for his presentation. Elisha Cuthbert, Jake Gold, Kreesha Turner, Jian Gomeshi, were amongst the many local “celebrities” in attendance for the show last night. Props to Joe Mimran and his team for continually picking a killer soundtrack. Last night’s show tunes included Grimes, You Say Party and Britney‘s new track “Work B**ch”. I kept bobbing my head throughout the entire show! I was delighted to see a lot of navy blue and white pieces come down the runway (I need to start wearing more navy, I know it goes really well with red hair ;)), followed by some bright orange and red pieces (a reoccurring color for the ss14!), blue snakeskin, blue camo and a few black and white looks. My favorite look was the red faux leather pants and shimmery v-neck tee. The animal print clutches also caught my eye. It’s hard not to feel excited about a Joe Fresh line because it’s accessible, affordable and always contains some really fun pieces.
All in all, a memorable night at the tents! What were your highlights from last night’s shows? Who are you excited to see tonight and the rest of the week? I sadly won’t be able to go to more WMCFW shows this season due to work commitments but I spent two very inspiring nights at the David Peacaut Square again this season!
Happy Tuesday! Really excited about the special show we’re preparing for you on our Canadian Music Week showcase Le French Tickler that will be airing on April 1st at 8pm EST on TFO and online at http://tfo.org. I was just watching some of the performances from the night and they look and sound great! Can’t wait for you all to see them! In the meantime, we shot a fun episode at Le Dolci (check out the delicious cake they made for us!!) in Toronto last week, you can watch it here:
For today’s outfit, I’m rocking some faux-leather pants, paired with a green sleeveless embroidered blouse and my black and gold studded booties. I’m also wearing a bunch of gold and spike accessories to embellish the outfit.
It’s with little sleep but much excitment that I start what will probably be the longest work day of my life… or at least of the last little while. After months of planning, the day has finally arrived! Tonight is the first ever Canadian Music WeekBRBR showcase “Le French Tickler“. Starting at 8pm at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto, some of our favorite Canadian artists will be showcasing tracks from their latest releases. On the bill, we’ve got Eight and a Half (ex-The Stills & Broken Social Scene), Peter Peter, Karim Ouellet, Pandaléon, Loud x Lary x Ajust and Claude Munson & The Storm Outside. I couldn’t be more excited to know that the showcase is almost all sold-out! There will be a few tickets at the door and some passes/wristbands will be accepted. More info about the evening here:
The entire show will be livestreamed on our facebook page, so if ever you can’t make it out to the show, you can watch it live starting at 8pm ESThere. We’ll also be taping a special BRBR show with the artists during the afternoon that will be airing on April 1st.
My anthem for today couldn’t be more fitting and is a great pump up track by Porcelain Black!
I absolutely fell head over heels in love with the entire Mackagecollection. The first look, as seen below floored me. I loved the mixed leather and furbiker jacket, the burgundy leather skirt and leather leggings paired with their amazing new line of handbags and rad platform heels. I loved the red wool plaid skirts and shorts, all of the leather jackets, the fur, the long trench coats with leather trim, the schoolgirl backpacks and the little leather biker gloves. To me, Mackage’s fall/winter 2013 collection was the perfect mix between class and rock n’ roll! I can absolutely see myself wearing every single piece of the collection, it’s totally my style. I couldn’t be more excited to have seen such an inspiring runway show. Definitely my favorite this year! Now, I need to start saving up, if I want to add the new collection to my wardrobe.

The second collection I saw was Joe Fresh‘s Fall/Winter 2013. The room was absolutely packed for the show, which started off with some lovely French indie/electro music. That definitely got my attention! Though I don’t own many Joe Fresh pieces, I’ve always respected the line for creating quality affordable and stylish pieces that can be paired up with just about anything. They’re perfect for basically any occasion. Last night’s collection, was all about black and white, shimery fabrics, biker jackets, studs and headscarves?! Yup, a handful of models were wearing headscarves over their short black bob wig. I can’t say I was a big fan of the headscarves but… My favorite items of the collection were the black and white biker jackets, the black faux fur jacket and all of the black skirts. I also loved hearing French music throughout the show. Also, not sure if it’s just me, but Joe Mimran‘s final wave at the end seemed so heartfelt. He really seems like a sweetheart! Overall, I definitely see myself adding a few of those pieces to my wardrobe.
Channeling my inner Mackage as I wait for the Joe Fresh show to start…

So for today’s special CMW show taping, I was inspired by the new Mackage collection and put an outfit together that mixes: leather, platform heels, a biker jacket, black.
It’s Friday and the sun is shining, life is good! I couldn’t be more excited to be heading to the Horseshoe tonight to see Half Moon Run. I had the chance to work with them at the very beginning of their career while I was still working at Indica Records. As predicted, they’ve really blown up in the past couple of months. They’re about to embark on a European tour with Mumford & Sons and following that they’ll be touring the US with Of Monsters And Men. Mark my words, this band will be huge!
It’s dress Friday! Love the mix of polka dots and leather. Stoked to be wearing my new Luxe Craving leather cuff and Lionette bracelet.
