Finishing off this special wedding inspiration series this week with a bit of magic. Look 5was inspired by this beautiful NARCES dress. The detailing, deep v neck and champagne color make the dress absolutely stunning. I’ve always dreamed of wearing such a pretty dress and am so grateful I got the chance to.
With the sun setting behind the forest, it also made for the prettiest backdrop. This would be a breathtaking location for a wedding ceremony.
For the hairstyle, we went for a side braid. “Braid on one side of your head not all the down just halfway. Pin it let the rest of your hair fall however you’d like , again curl or leave straight,” explains hairstylist Aylin.
I hope you enjoyed this special wedding inspiration series. The goal was to get inspired by both bohemian and rock n’ roll elements to create some beautiful wedding looks and hairstyles. Can’t wait to take this inspiration and put it into practice at my own wedding on January 1st!
No matter how old I get, I will always remain a rocker at heart. I think the fact that Offner and I will be going to see Motley Crue’s last show at the Staples Centre in LA just a few hours before getting married, is proof enough.
Look 4, is maybe the least traditional wedding look but one of my favorites. A leather jacket, cute boots and a black dress with lace, is my idea of a cute rock n’ roll outfit. I think that when getting married, you have to be yourself and there’s nothing wrong with a little rock in what you choose to wear. The key is to feel great and not like an impostor (which is totally how I would feel if I went for the traditional wedding dress!) in what you’re wearing.
For the hairstyle, we tried the faux hawk ponytail. As Aylin explains, “give the top part some volume, pull tight on the sides, and tie it in a ponytail. You can curl the hair or leave it straight. Chic rocker style“.
Today’s Look 3 without a doubt has more of a bohemian feel to it. Not only with the setting we chose but also with the hairstyle and dress we picked.
We decided to go with a short but incredibly cute floral lace gown. Wedding dresses don’t always have to be long with a train. Short dresses can be just as cute and also a lot more practical. We accessorized it with a gold belt and gold shoes.
As for the hairstyle, we decided on a fishtail braid and added a strand from the bouquet in the braid to complete the look.
This look is super romantic and flirty. Perfect for a more casual wedding.
For Look 2, we opted for more of a cocktail or soirée kind of look. Something that you can pull off easily but that still makes a statement. This NARCES gold sequin and black felt dress is such a great statement piece. No need for accessories, when you’re wearing such a stunning piece. The coolest thing about this dress? It has pockets!
For the hairstyle, we went for a low messy bun. It has a very laid back feel to it yet also looks sophisticated. It’s also incredibly easy to do with just a couple of bobby pins. You can do it with curly or straight hair.
The woods just make this whole outfit pop and magical.
Beyond thrilled to share with you today the first of five looks we shot last week in Toronto. The goal for this shoot was to showcase some bohemian and rock n’ roll wedding hair inspirations and outfits for people in search of alternatives to the traditional wedding look.
I’ve always dreamed of getting married on a beach and this dream will become reality on January 1st 2016. Because I’ve never envisioned myself wearing the classic white dress and doing a formal ceremony, I’ve been wanting to find some unique looking dresses and spots to celebrate this important day that would be more fitting for my tastes and personality. This shoot served as inspiration for my own upcoming wedding and can hopefully inspire you to think outside the box and know that anything is really possible for your wedding. Whatever path you choose, it’s your special day so why not make all of your dreams and visions come true.
For this shoot, I had the privilege of working with a stellar team. Aylin aka Cabello by Carolina, who worked with me on my #15khairspiration series back in June that you can see here, Aleyah Solomon, with whom I’ve had the pleasure of shooting with before here and also Michelle, who’s an amazing makeup artist from Toronto. I was beyond thrilled to also have been able to get the most beautiful dresses from local Toronto designerNARCES. I’m the biggest fan of her collections, she always has the most beautiful detailing and cuts on all of her dresses.
For Look 1, we went for a dress that reminds me of the movie Ever After: A Cinderella Story. The pale gold sequins and train remind me of Drew Barrymore’s dress in the movie.
For the hair, we opted for a braided crown. As Aylin explains “Instead of braiding the hair all around your head, leave it half up/half down. Add some little leaves if you want, this look works on anyone!“
To me this is the perfect bohemian and fairy tale look! Check back tomorrow for Look 2!
World MasterCard Fashion Week has once again come to a close! Another week filled with inspiring runway looks and fashion discoveries. What were some of your favorite collections this season? Who was your favorite designer discovery?
Some highlights for me this season: Mackage‘s fringe jackets and beautiful cut out skirts. Helder Diego‘s cape dress and structured print jacket. Hayley Elsaesser‘s bold and fun prints, loved the colors and the snake theme, very southwestern! Narces‘ flirty flowery lace dress and lip dress. Rudsak‘s sexy dark winter looks for men. So much awesomeness on the runway!
This week has been absolute madness for me. I just got back from NYC on Monday and headed straight into World MasterCard Fashion Week. I decided to go a little more mellow on the shows this year, having been to almost all the shows these past couple of seasons. Though Fashion Week is incredibly inspiring, fun and a great networking opportunity, it’s also incredibly tiring. So this season, I picked and chose the shows I most wanted to attend – Mackage, Hayley Elsaesser, Narces, etc. Catch my recap of some of my favorite moments of World MasterCard Fashion Week this weekend on the blog! Also coming this weekend!! Don’t miss my #5QuestionsWith Hayley Elsaesser!
This was my first time seeing a runway show by Elan + Castor. Her show was filled with ample amounts of stripes, knits and earthy tones with a few pops of pink and purple. The top buns and bandeau tops were also a thing. Everything she presented looked incredibly comfortable and cozy!
Also my first Narces runway show last night. The entire collection was beautiful, dainty and flirty. She stuck to a very feminine color palette – white, pink, pale yellow, seafoam green and blue. I liked the intricate beading, flower details and lace on some of the dresses. The model below totally reminded me of a modern ballerina. My favorite was the white lace doily dress below. I could totally see myself wearing it next summer!
Not your traditional fashion show but just as fun to check out. The Minnie Mouse special presentation last night was pretty magical. They had asked a handful of local designers including Sig Neigum, Beaufille, etc. to make a special Minnie Mouse inspired creation. Everyone’s piece was incredibly creative and all channeled the Minnie Mouse spirit. I loved that they had placed big posters of the evolution of Minnie Mouse throughout the decades around the studio. Everyone was smiling, champagne was flowing and Minnie ears were everywhere in sight. Last night’s presentation definitely brought back lot’s of memories of my childhood and all the times I went to Disney World.
Thomas Balint is one of my favorite Canadian menswear designers. There was a very British rock n’ roll vibe to the collection he presented last night. Some of the show’s highlights were the black and white striped pants and blazers, the loose fitting pants tucked into army boots, the orange trench coat and his really nicely structured dress shirts. Anyone else recognize Cibo Matto’s “Sugar Water” track playing in the background?
You could definitely feel the summery vibe with the collection that bustle presented last night. Lot’s of prep, color and class on the runway. It definitely fit the European backdrop, parasols and Peroni bottles they had placed as props on the runway. My favorite pieces were hands down the relaxed drawstring trousers for men and the white blazer and pencil skirt combo for women.
Mélissa’s designs totally blew me away last season. This season, it was all about presenting something fresh, clean and sporty. Show highlights: dolphin shorts, drawstring pants, sheer & white stripped garments, and the many skirt and top combos. She did a great job accessorizing her show yesterday. I’m crushing hard on all the shoes I saw on the runway. I feel like if I was wearing Mélissa’s designs, I would not only feel comfortable but also look amazing!
Target is reputed for always putting on the most fun runway shows. Last night’s show included inspiration from Paris, New York and oh yes… winter! I loved the addition of live music on the runway. Music plus models smiling and having a good time created good vibes all around! Lot’s of great knits, bags, faux fur vests, jackets, leopard, plaid and faux leather pieces. One thing’s for sure, I need the plaid coat pictured below!! In case you haven’t heard Target Canada is now collaborating with TOMS to offer a special collection that will be available across Canada on November 16th. Being a big fan of the brand, I was happy to see them on the runway last night!
