Spending time in California always inspires me to dress a little different. In Toronto, I find myself dressing in a lot of black and white and neutrals but whenever I’m in California, the nice weather always inspires me to wear more color and be more creative with my outfit choices.
California was the perfect location to bring out this rad new colorful Adidas jacket and fresh white Miss Stan shoes. One of the comfiest outfits I’ve worn in a while. I love this jacket because it’s a real statement piece and definitely makes me stand out from the crowd. It was the perfect outfit for running around the city as we were getting ready for our wedding. It’s also the perfect comfortable outfit for traveling.
Do you find yourself also wearing brighter colors when you’re somewhere sunny?
I had so much fun exploring the streets of Vancouver earlier this month. Loved all the vintage neon signs that you can find on Granville Street and also around The Burrard hotel. I’m excited to share with you my stay at this boutique hotel in the coming weeks on a special travel blog. Vancouver is full of cool design gems and I would have loved to spend even more time discovering all of them. Can’t wait to be back again soon!
Spending time in the southwest has reintroduced me to the Cowboy Culture. I hadn’t been to Arizona in a couple of years so it’s been great spending in this wonderful state this past week. So many beautiful things to see, which I’ll be sharing with you in some upcoming travel posts. The one thing I’m particularly fond of is the fashion down here. I love a classic cowboy hat, I think it adds character to any kind of outfit. Because I live in Toronto, I rarely get to find nice hats so I couldn’t resist when I saw this particular one in Tombstone the other day. I also found this beautiful Chevrolet truck in Holbrook. I’ve always been a fan of vintages cars, so I couldn’t help snapping a few shots with it. Excited to bring home this authentic Justin cowboy hat back home with me!
In case you didn’t follow my motorcycle adventures this weekend, I’m happy to report that I passed my M2 license! 😀 I couldn’t be more thrilled! It was a hot and sweaty weekend for motorcycle lessons but it was incredibly amazing to spend the entire weekend outdoors finally realizing one of my lifelong dreams of riding a motorcycle!
Since the weekend, all I’ve been thinking about are motorcycles. I think it’s kind of like surfing or even traveling, once you do it, you’ve totally caught the bug. I can honestly say, I’ve caught the motorcycle bug. We’re looking at potentially renting a motorcycle during our travels this summer, so I hope there will be more riding in the near future!! Can’t wait to explore the world on two wheels!!
Lot’s of running plans for the summer so I figured I would share with you some of my go-to running essentials for the season. All runners have gear, fuel and hydration preferences but hopefully this can help those still trying to figure out their running routine!
When I’m going for speed: Nike Zoom Elite 8 – I tried them on the track last week and they proved to have a great kick to them. Did you know they have a mini airbag like structure in the heel? The cushioning in the heel is very responsive to your stride and the pressure you apply to it.
When I’m going for distance: Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 32 – I’ve been taking these out for a spin on my longer runs. They’re a neutral shoe but give your feet all the support they need. I particularly like the fact that you can adjust the entire shoe with the flywire cables. The Pegasus shoes are very breathable so they don’t make my feet overheat.
2) The gear
With the weather being so warm these days, I’m keeping my running gear light. These training shorts are great for NTC workouts but also for running because they’re very light and keep me super dry during the run. I also like that the waistband keeps the shorts from moving around when I run. A proper fitting sports bra is also a must. This one is good for any kind of workout and if you’re not too top heavy, you can also take it out running. I never run without a running hat. It keeps the sweat from rolling down my face, my hair in place and protects my head from harmful UV rays.
3) Energy & Hydration
NUUN Active – These tablets are my go-to for pre and post run hydration when I’m on the go. I just drop one in a bottle of water and they give me all the electrolytes needed without the sugar or carbs. These packs are also great for traveling.
VEGA Electrolyte Hydrator – Is specifically designed for sports. It’s an all natural and plant based powder. I love adding this to water immediately after I run. The powder isn’t too sweet and is packed with electrolytes.
Perfect Bar – It’s important to get lot’s of protein when running and these Perfect Bars have become the thing I love eating the most right after a run. They immediately give my body natural sugar, carbs and protein without giving it the bad stuff. I like that all of their bars are handmade in San Diego and that they’re all natural, NON-GMO, Gluten Free and a good source of Super Foods. My favorite kind is the Peanut Butter bar!
Hope you all had a lovely Canada Day! I spent some time reflecting yesterday on how lucky I am to be living in a country where you can be whatever and whomever you want to be. Though no country is perfect, I’m definitely grateful to live somewhere where as a women you can achieve anything you put your mind to. If you believe it, you can achieve it in Canada. I never want to take that for granted.
Speaking of Canada and this beautiful country, I recently found out that I’ll be spending the entire fall touring across the country in a bus. I haven’t done a cross-Canadian tour or a Canadian road-trip since 2006, so I’m beyond thrilled that I’ll get the opportunity to do so again in the fall. Fall is also such a beautiful time to go across the country, so much to see and discover! I can’t wait to share all of my adventures with you via this blog. Definitely stay tuned!
I don’t usually set myself seasonal goals but I’ve decided that I was going to do so for the summer.
My goal this summer: be close to the water, as often as possible.
The one thing I want to do most in the summer is be outdoors. I don’t have the luxury of living somewhere where it’s nice 365 days a year, so when it finally gets warm and sunny out, all I want to do is be outdoors and preferably somewhere by the ocean or close to a body of water. It’s impossible for me to be focused and concentrate indoors when it’s so nice out!
Because Toronto is located right on Lake Ontario, I try to go for runs on the Martin Goodman Trail several times a week and bike close to the waterfront. Any time I can go swimming in a lake, wakeboard or SUP, you’ll find me on the water. I’m also very excited to be spending a full month in California this summer, so that I can fill up on Vitamin D and get my fair share of ocean time. Can’t wait to just walk to the beach in my favorite Sanuk flip flops (pictured below!), wearing my bathing suit, carrying a picnic and a surfboard. I can’t wait to smell the salt air, feel the ocean breeze, watch the waves and then go for a surf or swim!
I love summer for many reasons and one of the things I love most is being outdoors and being active. There’s so much to do around in Toronto in the summertime. Whether it’d be going for a bike ride, playing basketball, swimming, running, doing yoga, SUP, kayaking, etc., there’s so many ways you can be active.
I recently had to chance to go on a little Bench shopping spree to get some new activewear pieces for the summer. I found the lightest and comfiest waterproof jacket as well as super light leggings and a rad colorful bra. All three items are perfect for this summer’s outdoor activities!
What are some of your favorite things to do outdoors in the summer? #24HourLife #LoveMyHood
With summer right around the corner, it’s time to start summer planning! After having spent the spring primarily at home, I’m excited for all the travels that are coming my way this summer. For the first time since I was a teenager, I will actually get one full month of vacation, I can hardly believe it! I couldn’t be more excited to be spending this time in my favorite place on the planet, you guessed it: California!
This upcoming trip will be a fun one since we’ll be incorporating a mini road trip along the way, spending time in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada. We’ve already started planning for it and I can’t hardly wait! We’ll also be spending time in my favorite little beach town – Encinitas as well as Los Angeles and also going out to Palm Springs for the first time ever. If you have any travel recommendations, or must-see things while we’re there, please send them my way. I’ll be publishing a special series of blogs during and after the trip, so lot’s of travel tips coming your way this summer!
Today’s outfit, couldn’t be more representative of the California state of mind. This is the perfect post-surf and biking outfit. Boyfriend jeans, a California tee and a pair of brand new Sanuks. I love these new ones called “The Boardwalk“, they’re the perfect summer colour! Comfort and class, all wrapped into one!
In July, I’ll be celebrating my one year anniversary of taking NTC classes. If you’ve been following my blog, you’ve probably read about NTC before. Doing NTC for the past year has really changed the way a) I view group classes and b) the way my body feels and looks. I think NTC has made me a whole lot stronger and healthier overall and has also allowed me to meet such an awesome community of women not only in Toronto but across North America.
This week, Nike Toronto launched a special #DoneBeforeDawn series of NTC classes across Toronto. This special 6-week series offers Torontonians some early morning classes that will have you sweating while the rest of the city sleeps. You’ll be able to train with Nike Master Trainers in some of the city’s most beautiful locations. Classes are offered in the Annex, CityPlace, The Village, King West, Downtown, St. Lawrence and Queen West!
