Took my new Nike Free TR Fit 4 sneakers to work today and my feet couldn’t be happier. Super happy to see more people dressing up the sneaker look. Not sure I’m ready to go full out sneaker with a dress look because it basically goes against everything my mom taught me, but I have no qualms giving my feet a rest once in a while. I like these ones particularly because they’re black and can go with just about everything! Yay or Nay for the sneaker look?

Speaking of sneakers, anyone remember this band?! Holy 90s flashback! To this day, I’m still not too sure what it means to be a “sneaker pimp”…

Summer Is Around The Corner #DailyOutfit

Summer is definitely around the corner! Today was the most beautiful and warmest day yet in Toronto! To celebrate, Offner and I took a long walk home from work along Lake Ontario. I also wore my comfy new Botanical Jerichos from Native Shoes. These shoes go with just about everything. I’m excited to bring them with me to Europe next week, they will be perfect for long walks and exploring. Also love their #KeepItLite motto, perfect to bring in a suitcase 😉

5 Questions With: OIA JULES

I first heard of Elizabeth Schricker, the designer behind OIA Jules a few years ago through the very popular online shop called Jewelmint. I then started seeing a lot of fashion bloggers sporting her unique jewelry designs. I had the pleasure of adding a few of her beautiful precious stone jewels to my personal collection. During one of my many trips to LA, I had the chance to have coffee with her and since then we’ve become good friends. Like I’ve mentioned on this blog before, I love the motto behind her collection “Laid Back Glam“, to me it’s absolutely representative of California, and the place that inspires her creations. Elizabeth has been keeping busy designing a bunch of new items and also just recently started a blog for the brand. She is currently working on her official Lookbook and pushing her presence at more retail locations. I’m thrilled to present this week’s interview, my 5 Questions With OIA JULES:

1) Can you talk to us about your own style evolution from your teens until now? How would you describe your style today?

My style has always been heavily influenced by music and I was a teen in the 80’s, so there were some pretty bold wardrobe choices.

It’s pretty safe to say that I’ve been a risk taker in all facets of my life, fashion included. Not so much now that I am older, but definitely in my teens & twenties.

I went to art school in NYC after high school and that was definitely my black phase. Black everything. Even my bedding in the dorm had to be black. Black hair, black Doc Martens, cut off vintage Levis with fish net stockings. Funny how that’s what I see kids wearing again now.

I moved out to Los Angeles when I was 25, so that’s when my style really started to evolve. I was big into thrifting and incorporating vintage pieces into my wardrobe and adding color. Funny how the sun and sand can influence your style!

Pre having a child you would never catch me in flats. Now I practically live in converse and moto boots. I would describe my style today as laid back glam. I try to be comfortable because I spend the majority of the day running around and at the studio making jewelry. Mostly jeans, t-shirt, sometimes a black blazer and heels for a meeting.  Black leather moto jacket is a staple too.  I always try to glam it up a bit by adding my accessories. Throwing on a big chunky ring is my statement piece of choice.

2) Who are your style icons?

Debbie Harry, Gwen Stefani, The Runaways, Alison Goldfrapp, David Bowie.

3) Where do you draw inspiration for your designs?

I am largely inspired by natural stones and geodes. I love that they are each one of a kind and have their own unique beauty. Much like people.

4) Who would you like to see wear your collections?

Oh wow, I would love to see my pieces on more musicians. Women all over who are trendsetters and like to rock bold pieces.

5) What are some of your favorite artists or bands? Do you listen to music when you create?

I love to listen to music when I am designing. It’s definitely another source of inspiration. Favorite artists are Queens of the Stone Age, David Bowie, Arctic Mokeys, Tom Waits, Jeremy Enigk, Pixies, Goldfrapp- too many to list! I’m digging Brody Dalle’s new album and Warpaint at the moment too.

Thanks Elizabeth!

Lace Flowers #DailyOutfit

Happy Tuesday! Hope your day was grand! In today’s exciting news, there’s apparently a new invention in the food world. First there was the cronut and now there is the wonut. Yes, this is 100% true. There’s a waffle-donut! Let’s all rejoice! And if they taste as good as they look, we’ll all have an extra reason to go to Chicago this summer. Being a big foodie and having a serious sweet tooth, I couldn’t help but post the following photo. You’re welcome!

And now for something completely different – my daily outfit! Love this white lace flower top from Zara. I styled it with a handful of dainty bracelets and a dainty necklace from Oia Jules and Shashi.

Be A Shark #DailyOutfit

I love anything to do with sharks! I’m obsessed with Shark Week, I love watching documentaries on sharks, I love learning about them and hope to one day be lucky enough to go on an expedition to swim with them. I have utmost respect for these creatures. Though a bit scary, sharks are so smart and have such distinct and interesting characteristics. So I was pretty stoked when OIA Jules created some pretty gold shark tooth inspired necklaces. I loved my big necklace so much, I recently got a miniature version of it as well. I wouldn’t say I would describe myself as being a “shark” but I do love the confidence these animals have. I think it’s ok to have shark-like confidence once in a while!!

Baby Jaws #DailyOutfit

While I was in LA last week I had the chance to stop by OIA Jules‘ creation studio in Encino. I love Elizabeth’s jewelry designs for many reasons. Not only does she make super creative pieces, she also uses quality materials (those precious stones are so beautiful!), everything is reasonably priced and she is the epitome of her motto – “laid back glam“. I was immediately drawn to her because of her vibe and the vibe of her creations. Elizabeth’s designs caters to all types of women coming from everywhere. I was really excited to get a little custom piece made while I was there – a super dainty gold baby jaws necklace! I absolutely love it! I also got a few other pieces that you’ll be seeing in my upcoming blog posts. Make sure you keep an eye out for the blog she’ll be launching shortly!

All About The Hat #DailyOutfit

Today’s outfit is all about the hat – the new Anine Bing hat I brought back from my trip to LA. I’ve been lusting over this hat for the past couple of months, so finally to have finally made it a part of my wardrobe. I never thought I’d be a big hat person but I’m finding it to be the perfect accessory. It goes well with pretty much any outfit – whether you’re going for the more rock n’ roll look, a laid back look or even dressy look. It’s also perfect for when it snows or when you don’t feel like dealing with your hair in the morning. Also, this type of hat can really be worn all-year-round. Though this one is from Anine Bing, you can find similar hats at Topshop, Forever 21, H&M, etc. all for under $150, so you don’t have to break the bank. I think it’s definitely worth the investment!

Green & Black Tribe #DailyOutfit

T – 14 days before my next adventure – France!!! Ah can’t wait! Still have 4 shows to shoot before I leave including our holiday special.

It’s been really cold in Toronto these past few stays so I’ve been staying sane by sipping lot’s of tea and also watching some surf flicks. Last night I watched the doc featuring Kelly Slater: The Ultimate Wave – Teahupoo. The film is really well shot and is not only beautiful to watch but also informational. After watching it, all I wanted to do was pack my bags and leave for Tahiti stat! Check out the trailer below:

Today’s outfit was centered around my the 10th Tribe beanie and some green and black items. My Modern Vice Camo Jetts go perfectly with this kind of moto and army themed ensemble. I love me some post-work reading.

Feeling Like A Chick #DailyOutfit

Happy Monday everyone! How was your weekend? I went to the movies on Friday night to see the brand new Sandra Bullock and George Clooney flick Gravity in 3D. If you’re a big space, NASA or astronaut nerd, this will definitely be up your alley. It’s 90mins of beautiful images, action and a pretty decent storyline. George Clooney is effortlessly cool and funny and though isn’t present much throughout the film, his comic relief easily welcome. Not my favorite movie as of late, but worth watching!

I also checked out the new Cibo Wine Bar that just opened up two months ago on King Street West. I’ll have a full review of the restaurant for you later this week!

Today’s outfit makes me feel like a chick… I mean one of these! I kept the accessories to a minimum opting for a badass shark tooth statement necklace from OIA Jules!
