I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with jogging pants. As a kid, they were my go-to post swimming team practices and pre-skipping competition (yes, I used to skip and partake in skipping competitions!). But after high-school, the thought of wearing jogging pants in public or a matching jogger pant and top haunted me… until last week that is, when Industry Active sent me this super rad jogger outfit and I tried it on.
What’s different now? 1) I’m old enough and have enough confidence in myself to wear whatever I want. 2) I think this jogger outfit can easily be styled any which way, either dressed up or down. 3) After wearing heels, skinny jeans and tight clothes non-stop for 10+ years, it’s nice to wear something a little more loose-fitting once in a while.
I decided to give this matching set more of a rock n’ roll vibe with my faux leather jacket and custom Nike iD Internationalist sneakers. I honestly think that there’s a way of wearing joggers that still makes you look put together and still looks like you made an effort in the morning when you got out of bed and got dressed.
Is it just me or did January fly by? It feels like the first month of the year went by in a flash. I usually hate January but I honestly didn’t really feel it this year. Maybe it was because I was busier than ever, maybe it’s because it wasn’t that cold in Toronto or maybe it’s because I’ve changed my outlook on winter. Whatever combination of things it was, I’m grateful the year is off to such a great start.
Everyone I’ve been talking to lately is all about making 2016 “their” year, making it a year of positivity, go-getting, etc. I think it’s so inspiring to see that and be surrounded by such motivated individuals.
If time keeps flying by, it’ll be summer in no-time!
Wearing some of my favorite winter items on today’s post. The leopard coat just keeps coming back every year, I just can’t seem to get enough. Love this new BENCH scarf and hat as well as this new KOMONO watch.
How was your January? Is your year off to a great start?
Hope you all had an amazing weekend! Offner and I went to see an amazing movie this weekend that I’d like to recommend to you all – it’s called Boyhood and features Patricia Arquette & Ethan Hawke. It’s a movie that was shot during a period of 12 years and is probably the most profound movie I’ve seen all year. It’s only out in select theaters but it’s well worth the trip!
I’m starting the week with my favorite summer dress! I bought this Anine Bing feather dress as a present for myself around my birthday in June and have been wearing it non-stop since. It’s super comfy and I’ve been wearing for all sorts of occasions. Speaking of Anine Bing, she has a brand new lookbook out for her upcoming fall collection. You can check it out here. Anine’s designs have really become my favorite this past year or so. I’ve mentioned her name a couple of times on the site before, but I really love everything she puts out. My closet is slowly becoming an “Anine Bing closet”!
With spring finally deciding to show up, I couldn’t be more excited to have received an amazing package from British Columbia (by the way, I’m so due for a visit soon!!) this past weekend. I got some rad new shoes from a Canadian brand called Native Shoes. You may have heard of them already if you’re a big Trouble Andrew fan as he is one of the brand’s ambassadors. You may have also seen their super colorful and quirky ad campaigns, they kind of look straight out of a Wes Anderson movie. If not, a bunch of celebrities including Obama‘s daughters have been spotted sporting these kicks. The reason why I love these shoes so much is that a) as their motto states, they’re super lite and also comfy, b) they’re the perfect post-surfing/wakeboarding/SUPshoe because they’re waterproof and easy to clean c) they’re Canadian!! I’m also a big fan of all of the colors they have for the spring.
Though it’s still a little too chilly to sport them every day, I figured I’d take them out for a trial run today on this beautiful Monday along with my new Anine Bing cropped jeans. What are some of the clothes you’re excited to wear now that the weather has gotten a tiny bit warmer?! Let me know!
Day 4 already of WMCFW! I can start feeling the fatigue creeping up on me. A good way to know if I’m tired – if you see me wearing my glasses, then you know I’m not getting too many Zzz’s 😉
For today’s outfit, I went for a more sporty/hipster look. Leggings, my 10th Tribe beanie, leather jacket and oversized my recycled leather and fur mittens. I also sported the special collaboration tee from fashion blogger Song Of Style x Shop eLUXE called “Do Epic Chic”.
Today we were reminded that it’s still winter in Toronto. Mother Nature graciously gave us enough snow to last a couple of months! I really felt I was living in a snow globe today!
All this snow didn’t prevent me from spending the day in a dress. Lace is going to be big again in the spring so I’m excited to have this Zara dress in my wardrobe. What I love doing every season is buying a few dresses that can be dressed up or down and mixed with other items in my closet. Do you like wearing dresses in winter? Are you a fan of lace?
I think those who know me would definitely call me a dreamer. I dream of a lot of things, not only for myself but for other people and for the world around me. When I first heard of Karen London Designs, I immediately felt connected to the brand. Her jewelry are called names that I can easily relate to – “Wanderer”, “Desert Moon”, “Free Bird”, etc. Her latest collection entitled “Dream Weaver” has as a motto – “Fly me away to the bright side of the moon” and consists in bright stones and colors, as well as a very bohemian and mediterranean feel. I’m thrilled to be sporting some items from the new collection today.
These days I mostly dream of travels, summer, adventure, food (silly, I know!), creativity and surfing! What do you dream of?
Really getting excited for the my School Of Styleweekend in NYC in a couple of weeks. I’ve heard lot’s about them so I can’t wait to find out more about styling, fashion and blogging at their conference.
In the meantime, trying to keep warm (yes, still…) by layering sweaters and vests together. Some may feel that camo and red may look to “Christmas-y” but I kind of like the pop of color with the military jacket. I’m also really excited about this DIY necklace I made last week in California. I took a cool key I found at HOME shop in Encinitas and then added a cute surfer girl charm to it and put it together on a gold brass chain at Beads, Crystals & More. I used to love making jewelry as a teenager, I had thousands of beads, threads, etc. Though I’ve been out of commission these past couple of years, I’m thinking it’s something I may want to get back into in the near future, especially with platforms like Etsy, that make crafting so easy to share and sell. To be continued… maybe 😉
This weekend I watched an amazing documentary on Netflix (between some House of Cards episodes!!) called “Spinning Plates“, which profiles three different restaurants in the US that are each so unique and different but who all get struck by tragedy. The doc reveals how meaningful food can be and how powerful it can be to bring people together. The documentary film has won several awards already and I can see why. A truly touching story, worth watching!
Really excited to be going back to LA tomorrow! I can’t believe it’s already been several months since my last trip. It’s crazy how time flies! My upcoming trip can be summarized by the following words: Friends x Surfing x Food x Tattoos x Fashion. Wearing my American Eagle sweater from Topshop to celebrate today. Getting ready to go!!
