Hello Fall!

Making the most of the time I have in Toronto before I leave for my next travel and life adventure. I’ve only got one month left so I intend on doing all of my favorite things in the city before I leave for a little while.

Just a few days ago I was walking around in flip flops and shorts and in the last couple of days, fall showed up. I’m definitely not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet (didn’t it just fly by this year?) but I’m happy to be able to dress in some of my favorite warmer clothes again.

Having a good pair of jeans is key for fall so you’ll be seeing me living in my new GUESS jeans all throughout the season. They’re perfect to run errands around the neighbourhood before I start packing for the big adventure.

Abbot Kinney

One of my favorite places to spend time in Venice Beach is on Abbot Kinney. The street is filled with tons of great shops, restaurants, cafés, etc. The whole area surrounding Abbot Kinney is also a great place to walk around, spend time with family and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Though Abbot Kinney itself tends to get a little crowded on the weekend, it still remains after all these years, one of my favorite places. Some of my favorite spots on the street are: Gjelina’s, TOM’s shop & café, Skylark, Burro, Kreation, etc. They also have some of the greatest street art in the area, including this classic Rooster Fish.

Prints #DailyOutfit

Happy Thursday everyone!

I finally got around to watching Adrian Grenier‘s doc last night Teenage Paparazzo after having heard a lot about it. Since, I (not so) secretly love TMZ, I figured it’d be a very interesting doc for me to watch… And I was not disappointed. If you’re looking for a light, entertaining yet also neat doc to watch on the entertainment industry, I recommend checking it out!

Today, I’m heading to Montreal for the weekend to visit the family. Though I’m not a big fan of Montreal (yes, I know, pretty much everyone I ever meet love Montreal… well, not me!), I’m really looking forward to meeting the ladies of Uranium tomorrow.

Today, I want to know what your favorite print is?! Every since I became a No Doubt and Gwen Stefani fan in 1995 (Tragic Kingdom is hands down the most influential record of my teens!), I’ve rocked many, many (too many!) leopard print accessories, garnments, etc. Those who have followed Gwen Stefani’s style evolution since the early nineties, know how much she loves leopard print! See example below 😉 Lately, I’ve been trying to switch it up a little, adding houndstooth, florals, chevron prints and more to my wardrobe. I’ve realized that I definitely also have a penchant for all things southwestern, not only for my home decor but also in my clothes. I think prints keep fashion fun and interesting 🙂

Really stoked to be wearing my new Forever 21 chevron print shorts today. I tried to make them look a little bit rock n’ roll with some spikes and gold/brass accessories.

Have a great day!

Biko Jewellery at the Juno Awards

Last Friday, the lovely Corrine from Biko Jewellery invited me to stop by her Toronto studio to pick out some jewellery for the Juno Awards. I was ecstatic! I first found out about Biko Jewellery through Dainty Girl. She was wearing some of her lovely chainmaille bracelets an I immediately fell in love with them. I took a look at her website and instantly became an even bigger fan, especially of the great vintage-inspired necklaces on her site. I love her mix of feminine and tough, her mix of vintage and new, how she casts and reshapes a lot of the pieces she finds. Corrine travels a lot to find unique jewels, stones and little gems that she reshapes, modifies and embellishes herself.

While at the studio on Friday, she explained to me that though she was always crafty, she only started making jewellery after doing a photo shoot with a friend, not liking the earrings she was supposed to wear and deciding to make her own pair.  From then on, she became obsessed! And from all the materials, tools, designs, etc. in her studio, you can definitely tell it’s something she’s constantly working on. She’s always creating; she even has designs ready for next year but sometimes has to hold herself back from releasing them right away. I think that that’s a good problem to have 😉

Just last week, one of her necklaces made it onto the cover of Seventeen Magazine. She says that her business has really been picking up in the last 2-3 years, that she’s been getting a lot more interest from the United States as well. I personally think it’s only the beginning for her.

I had sent Corrine a few pictures of the  RUDYBOIS dresses I will be wearing at the Junos this week, so together we picked out a few pieces that would definitely make a statement in front of the camera and on the red carpet. Though it was really hard to pick, we finally narrowed it down to a few favorites. Curious to see what I ended up picking and what I’ll be wearing? You’ll have to keep checking back on the blog later this week to see the final look!

Can’t wait to rock some Biko on the red carpet in Regina!!! A big thank you to Corrine for letting me wear some of her fabulous designs this week. I couldn’t be more excited and honored!!

Feeling Southwestern #DailyOutfit

Today’s outfit is inspired by my current obsession with all things Southwestern. I think I initially developped my love for that style a few months ago, when I started following The 2 Bandits on twitter and instagram.  All of Tamar’s designs are influenced by the south.  I’ve also had the chance to travel to Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada and California on several occasions and have always been inspired by the architecture, art, clothing and general culture there.  Today’s outfit puts a little bit of warmth and sunshine into this cold and grey day in Toronto.

Today, I’m wearing a southwestern navajo print top, a vintage thunderbird (I LOVE thunderbirds!!) & carriage brown belt, a denim jacket and classic mid-calf brown suede boots.

Short shorts #DailyOutfit

It may be cold outside but it doesn’t mean you can’t wear your shorts all-year-round. I saw a few of my friends doing it so I figured why not give it a try.  I particularly like mixing the summer short with tights and a fun tee. It makes me feel like it’s summer outside… well not quite, but it’s nice to imagine that it is. For today’s outfit, I once again picked out an old tee from my closet, mixed it with my favorite Zara zip-up blazer and a pair of urban outfitters jean shorts. I also whipped out my pair of Steve Madden leather booties that I bought last year in New York. The heels are totally worn out and make me walk funny but I still love them.
