Post-Polaris #DailyOutfit

Just got back from NYC yesterday, after an amazing long weekend trip! Make sure to check my blog in the next couple of days to see a little recap on my trip featuring some of my favorite spots of the weekend! We tried some amazing new restaurants that I’m excited to share with you all!

Yesterday, I flew back to Toronto early in the morning because I had the honor of presenting a band at the 2013 Polaris Music Prize. I wasn’t able to divulge until yesterday that I was chosen to be one of this year’s presenters alongside Sarah McLachlan, Sebastien Grainger, George Stroumboulopoulos, Martin Gero, just to name a few. So humbled by the fact that I was presenting with these inspiring folks.

I was chosen to present Young Galaxy, whom I absolutely love. Their latest record Ultramarine is a real gem. They were my top pick on this year’s ballot. I was so nervous but so humbled by the whole experience. Thanks to the band for being so inspiring as well as Steven Jordan & Claire Dagenais for all of their amazing work.

You can re-watch the gala in its entirety thanks to AUX TV here:

For today’s outfit, I decided to wear my new Topshop threads that I bought in NYC this weekend. I’ve never been one to wear hats but out of curiosity while browsing around the big Topshop store on Broadway, I saw a cool looking hat and decided to try it out. To my surprise, I didn’t feel as ridiculous as I thought I would feel wearing it. So I bought it 🙂 Plus, I bought this fun snakeskin dress. I also had to stop by my favorite little boutique in Williamsburg to get a new Verameat buddy. I got a new gold Brachiosaurus pendant. Nerd alert 😉

Sicky look #DailyOutfit

I thought I could fight it but apparently my immune system wasn’t strong enough. I officially have a cold! As per usual it’s the worst timing ever with a cooking shoot today, my upcoming trip to NYC tomorrow, the Polaris Prize on Monday, show shoot on Tuesday, etc. But as my mom always said when I was a kid – the show must go on!

So for today’s outfit, I really opted for comfort and warmth! I’m wearing some of my favorite Anine Bing pieces and a super soft leopard shirt.

Polaris Prize Short List #DailyOutfit

So?! Are you happy with the Polaris Prize 2013 Short List? Only 2 of my 5 picks made the Short List this year. I also had the same score last year. To be honest, I’m not surprised by the overall list. I had predicted that a lot of these artists would end up there. Though I’m a little disappointed that Hannah Georgas and my two French picks – Peter Peter and Alaclair Ensemble didn’t make the cut, I’m not too surprised. I’m happy to see Young Galaxy and Purity Ring on there though. I had the honour of being a part of the Grand Jury last year and I know that it will be very difficult for the jurors to come up with a final pick. Good luck to them!

Sidenote – Can I just say how excited I am about Kathleen Edwards co-hosting the gala on September 23rd with Shad?! They will ensure the gala is spicy and unpredictable! Kathleen promised a unitard and if today’s presentation was any indication of what’s to come, be prepared for a few “fucks”. Love her!

For today’s livestream event, I was excited to wear some new threads I got from H&M last night. I love my new felt-print cut off shorts and my beige lace top!

Polaris Long List unveiling #DailyOutfit

What a whirlwind of a day! I’m spent!

Today started off bright and early. The BRBR crew and I headed to the Centre Phi to host a livestream at the unveiling of the Polaris Prize Long List. Thoughts on the records that made the cut? Happy? Mad? Sad? I’m definitely content with the overall list. I’m happy to see that five French records made it into the Top 40. Though I didn’t vote for all five personally, it’s nice to see that the rest of the sometimes unilingual jurors can still really appreciate a record crafted in another language! I’m super happy to see some of my personal favorites Young Galaxy, Hannah Georgas, Peter Peter, Purity Ring and Les Soeurs Boulay make it into the Top 40. Really curious to see who will make it into the next round…

Following the livestream that I hosted, I was also asked by the fine folks at the Polaris Prize to take part as a panelist in their Polaris Salon. I’m terrible at public speaking but didn’t feel so nervous this time around because the room was filled with many friendly familiar faces! What a great experience today was overall! A big thank you to all the artists who came to chat with us during the livestream. Stoked to do a third one, live from the Short List announcement on July 16th in Toronto.

For today’s Polaris livestream and salon, I rocked some rad Zara prints and some of my favorite jewels from Biko Jewellery, Lionette & Bing Bang NYC. I kept the armcandy rather simple to avoid making too much noise on camera… (tv host problems!)

Looking forward to starting our coverage of the Francofolies officially tomorrow! I kicked off the festival tonight with a lovely set from Fanny Bloom! You have to listen to her track “Respirer la fumée” if you aren’t familiar with her music yet!

Off to the Francofolies #DailyOutfit

Happy Wednesday everyone! It’s an early morning for me today as we’re off to the Francofolies in Montreal. Tomorrow, I’ll be hosting a livestream LIVE from the Polaris Prize Long List unveiling in Montreal. To find out what 40 Canadian records make the cut, tune in at 11am EST on BRBR‘s facebook page here. Following the livestream, I’ve been asked to be one of the panelists for the Montreal Polaris Salon being held at the Phi Centre at 1pm EST. It’s a free event that is open to everyone. If ever you’d like to join us for this conversation of music, you can RSVP and find all the deets here: Polaris Salon.

As of the 14th, I’ll be running around Montreal filming segments with Canadian artists for season 2 of BRBR as well as our social media. We’ll be posting a little recap of our day each day on BRBR’s youtube account that you can suscribe to here. We’ll be chatting to artists like Dumas, Jason Bajada, Sarahmée, O Linea, Eli et Papillon and a ton more!

For today’s outfit, I opted for some rock n’ roll comfort with my brand new Springsioux Horns Ring & Lady Cabellos poncho that I just received yesterday as well as my rad new Black Milk Clothing Beetle Juice style leggings that I got on my birthday 🙂 Have you been on the Black Milk Clothing website before?! They have SO many rad leggings, bathing suits & shoes!! As for shoes, I’m rocking my new Jeffrey Campbell “Don’t Even” sandals! So comfy!!

Have a wonderful day!

Back from vacation #DailyOutfit

Hey everyone!

Sorry I’ve been neglecting the blog lately. I decided to not bring my computer on vacation for once (I think it’s only happened once or twice in the last five or six years) and also didn’t have access to very good wifi where I was staying.

I hope that you’ve all been doing well! It was definitely nice to get away for a bit and refuel before the crazy festival season that starts later this week! I’ll post a little recap and “best of” from my vacation later this week. It was really nice to be back in California, to see friends, eat good food, hang out, surf and relax!! I also had the BEST birthday, thanks to @offneraurelien. A big thank you again to everyone for all of the kind birthday wishes! It was a very memorable birthday!

Now, it’s back to work and it’s pre-Francofolies de Montréal crunch time! I leave Wednesday morning for 10 days, so I’ve got so much to prepare leading up to this festival. In addition, to all of the festival madness, I’m also going to be hosting a very special livestream on Thursday June 13th at 11am EST, live from the Polaris Prize Long List unveiling. You can tune in live via BRBR‘s facebook page: here. I’ll post the exact link later on in the week. Following that, I’ve also been asked to be one of the panelists on the Polaris Salon being held that same afternoon live from the Phi Centre in Montreal. For more info, or to attend, go here.

When I got back yesterday, I had a lovely package waiting for me from Uranium 🙂 I decided to wear their rad new tank for today’s outfit along with my brand new Verameat hand necklace. I got to check out her Beverly Hills shop while I was in LA, what a cute little spot!

Burnt Orange #DailyOutfit

Monday, oh Monday! Today I received the official confirmation that I’ll be heading to Montreal to cover the Polaris Prize and the Francofolies as well as the Festival d’Été de Québec and the OFF Festival at the end of June and beginning of July. I couldn’t be more excited to be covering both of these festivals. Stay tuned for deets on what I’ll be doing while I’m there, livestreams, etc. There’s nothing quite like music festival season. It’s my favorite time of year! 🙂

For today’s outfit, I decided to go with the earthy tones. I also had to wear my new Jaci Necklace from Biko Jewellery. It’s definitely my new favorite thing. I love the fact that Corrine mixed beads and little washers on a small dainty gold chain!

This Week’s Ear Candy

Happy Friday y’all! Here are my favorite tracks and videos of the week:

This week I fell in love this Little Daylight‘s brand new vid for “Overdose”.  I had never heard of the band before this week but now know they’ve remixed a bunch of tracks for Freelance Whales, Passion Pit, St. Lucia and others before.  Their track is currently at #1 on Hypemachine. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did… perfect for your weekend if you ask me 🙂

Another track I fell in love with this week is from Summer Heart called “Hit Me Up Again”.  David Alexander aka Summer Heart is from Sweden. I absolutely love his chill dream-pop vibes.  No upcoming tour dates on his site but I’m sure he’d be a great act to see live. Here’s his trippy/dreamy video for his new single:

Finally, this morning, one of my favorite Canadian artists Cadence Weapon released a brand new video for his stellar track “Hype Man”.  Cadence’s latest record Hope In Dirt City was one of my top picks at this year’s Polaris Prize. I think he’s an extremely talented rapper and artist; he has something original and intelligent to contribute to the music scene. I also love his sense of humor.   I recently had the chance to chat with him for my show BRBR, what a cool guy!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

This Week’s Ear Candy

Alright, I know… I’ve slacked for way too long. It’s pathetic! I could list a few reasons why but none of them are really good excuses. So I decided to cut the slacking and start blogging again. Twice a week – Friday’s for the week’s ear candy and Tuesdays on travels, fashion, food, surfing, etc. So here we go, for this week’s Ear Candy:

On Thursday, one of my favorite Montreal-based singer-songwriters Peter Peter released a brand new video for his excellent track “Une version améliorée de la tristese”. Since his record was released in September, I feel like it has stayed a little too much under the radar. It’s a solid record from start to finish, so I really hope that more people will discover him. I know this record has what it takes to make this year’s Polaris Prize Long List and hopefully Short List as well. I’m really excited because he is one of the artists that will be performing at my tv show‘s first ever Canadian Music Fest showcase. It’s still a secret though, so you’re getting the scoop right here!! All the deets will be revealed soon. In the meantime, here’s his super hipster-looking but great new video for the title track off his record “Une version améliorée de la tristesse”

Earlier in the week, I discovered a great tune from an LA-based band called Cold Showers. They released in October their brand new record Love and Regret.  The band reminds me of a cross between The National and Bloc Party. I love the singer’s deep voice.  The band will be doing some tour dates in the winter across the states. I bet they’re a great act to see live! Here’s their brand new video for “BC”

Really dug the new Beach Fossils track that they released earlier this week called “Careless”. I had heard of the band before but had never really taken the time to give them a proper listen but with this song, I definitely did.  Beach Fossils is the solo project of Dustin Payseur, a musician from Brooklyn, NY. Their latest release Clash the Truth is excellent.  Listen to “Careless” here:

And just as an added bonus, here’s a great remix that I fell in love with today. Pacific Air remixed’ St.Lucia‘s lovely track “All Eyes On You”. It’s the perfect Friday afternoon track:

Wishing you all a splendid weekend! Back next week, with some new tunes for you!
