Pre-LA crunch time! #DailyOutfit

It was an early day at work for me today! After an almost sleepless night (damn you stupid nightmare!!), I headed to work super early today to prepare my last edit before leaving for LA tomorrow. It’s the last piece left over from all the stuff we had shot in Regina last month at the Juno Awards. I’m happy it’s all done because my post-trip schedule is looking pretty hectic!

Below is one of the great performances we did while in Regina. This one is with the pop-rock outfit High Hopes from Saskatoon. Though it’s not really my kind of music, I was really impressed by their vocal melodies!

Today, I also headed out to Polson Pier to shoot an interview with the Fransaskois artist Anique Granger. I always love going to that area of the city because we get such a beautiful view of the Toronto islands and downtown. Toronto was looking really lovely today! I feel lucky to be able to live in such a vibrant and amazing city 🙂

For today’s outfit, I’m wearing color, prints and some brass jewelry. I love my Corrida necklace, it’s so badass! For some reason, this necklace makes me think of Spain. I’ve always wanted to travel to Barcelona. It’s definitely on my list of places to go to one day!

Shades of Green #DailyOutfit

Happy Tuesday!

Was at work ridiculously early this morning to start editing the last batch of stuff we filmed in Regina at the Juno Awards.

Last night I watched the cutest and most touching documentary called Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey. Like most, I grew up watching Sesame Street. Growing up with a French mother, it was important for her that I watched television in English. Every morning as a child, I would watch Mr. Dressup followed by Sesame Street. Elmo was definitely one of my favorite puppets because he was so cute and loveable. Narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, the doc tells the story of Kevin Clash, who grew up in Baltimore making puppets, performing for children in his neighborhood and never letting go of his dream of meeting Jim Henson and working on Sesame Street. It’s available on Netflix for anyone interested in watching it. Smiles guaranteed!

For today’s outfit, I’m wearing diferent shades of green, not only in my clothes but also in my accessories. I LOVE my new Uranium Lois Lane green stone necklace from their Spring/Summer 2013 collection and my new green Biko Jewellery chainmaille bracelet. I also love my new TOPSHOP Henry Holland Suspender tights that my bf got me yesterday. Perfect weather to wear them today!

Back from Regina #DailyOutfit

Hey everyone!

Hope your week’s off to a good start! Apologies for the lack of updates last week, it was absolute madness in Regina. I just flew back late last night and was already at work early today to shoot BRBR episode 29 today. Can’t believe it’s already the before last show of the season! Time flies!! I had the best time in Regina this past week. Though there was still tons of snow on the ground, it was nice to be back there. The one thing that really stood out from my trip, was just HOW NICE everyone in Regina was! Wow! It’s so refreshing and nice to see people be so kind, helpful and smiley to everyone. I definitely really appreciated everyone’s warm welcome. We also met some really great local artists from Saskatchewan like High Hopes, Fly Points, Pimpton, Young Benjamins, etc. We also spent time shooting some new pilots for next year such as a Taxi show and a cooking show! Oh yea!!

I also took up a pretty interesting challenge last Friday when I hosted a 30min livestream in English and French live from the Juno Awards’ opening cocktail and welcome reception. I was really lucky to have some of this year’s Juno nominees who joined me for the livestream including Bahamas, The Pack a.d., Miranda from Great Lake Swimmers (yea ginger!) and the lovely Hannah Georgas. The 30min livestream was such a rush!! Looking forward to another similar challenge in the future!

Saturday and Sunday’s galas were also tons of fun! It was great to see a lot of my media and industry friends as well as some bands that I really respect and love. Though she didn’t end up taking home any awards, Hannah Georgas put on a killer performance during the big gala on Sunday night. I really hope this will open up even more doors for her in the future. It was also wonderful seeing Hey Ocean! walk down the red carpet for the first time, so proud of how far they’ve come!!

Below you’ll find the brief recap we put up from Sunday’s big gala red carpet. A big thank you to RUDYBOIS and Biko Jewellery for letting me wear their lovely designs this weekend! I’ll be putting together a special report on the Junos’ red carpet tomorrow that will be airing next Monday April 29th at 8pm EST. Make sure you keep an eye out for it! Here are a few pics from the Juno weekend!

Regina travels #DailyOutfit

Happy Thursday!

Yesterday I traveled to Regina for the Juno Awards. Apologies for not being able to post anything on the blog.

It’s been a while since I last traveled to Regina. The only time I’ve ever been to Regina was in 2006 while I was on tour so it was nice to get re-acquainted with the city today. It was definitely a lot colder and snowier than Toronto but the one thing I noticed right away was everyone’s friendliness! We didn’t have much time to explore the city but we had a lot of fun getting props (see the pic below) for the sessions and interviews we’ll be doing this week while there. We gave Dollarama a whole lot of money today!

On the schedule for today, going to get our sound gear that made it a day later and then start doing interviews and performances with two Saskatchewan acts: Pimpton and Fly Points.

So excited for our live hit happening this Friday live from The Juno Awards welcome reception! Make sure you tune in at 7pm CST/9pm EST to see what musical guests and nominees I’ll be speaking to.  You can tune in live right here:

For the occasion, I got some neat gold and black nails done at Sparks Nail Salon in Toronto. I had heard that the place did some rad 3D Japanese nail art so figured it’d be the perfect opportunity to check it out. I didn’t want something to crazy but wanted something classy and that could go well with my RUDYBOIS dresses & my Biko Jewellery.

Yesterday, I opted for comfort on the plane and went with a comfy skirt, chambray shirt and sweatshirt. One thing I’ve learned through frequent travels is how cold it can get on a plane, so the more layers the better!

Have a lovely day!!

Madness Tuesday #DailyOutfit

Hey everyone! Hope your day’s going well! Today is absolute madness as we’re getting ready to leave for the Juno Awards tomorrow morning! There are so many things to prepare before we head to Regina. I can honestly say that I didn’t put as much effort as I usually do in my outfit this morning… I opted for comfort with distressed jeans, a plaid shirt and my comfy wedge sneakers!

Keep checking the blog this week to get the full scoop on the Juno Awards. I’ll also be doing a live hit from the Juno Awards‘ Welcome Reception with a bunch of nominees this Friday at 7pm CST / 9pm EST. For all the deets, check here. We’ll be broadcasting live from BRBR’s facebook page:

Wishing you all a lovely afternoon!

Biko Jewellery at the Juno Awards

Last Friday, the lovely Corrine from Biko Jewellery invited me to stop by her Toronto studio to pick out some jewellery for the Juno Awards. I was ecstatic! I first found out about Biko Jewellery through Dainty Girl. She was wearing some of her lovely chainmaille bracelets an I immediately fell in love with them. I took a look at her website and instantly became an even bigger fan, especially of the great vintage-inspired necklaces on her site. I love her mix of feminine and tough, her mix of vintage and new, how she casts and reshapes a lot of the pieces she finds. Corrine travels a lot to find unique jewels, stones and little gems that she reshapes, modifies and embellishes herself.

While at the studio on Friday, she explained to me that though she was always crafty, she only started making jewellery after doing a photo shoot with a friend, not liking the earrings she was supposed to wear and deciding to make her own pair.  From then on, she became obsessed! And from all the materials, tools, designs, etc. in her studio, you can definitely tell it’s something she’s constantly working on. She’s always creating; she even has designs ready for next year but sometimes has to hold herself back from releasing them right away. I think that that’s a good problem to have 😉

Just last week, one of her necklaces made it onto the cover of Seventeen Magazine. She says that her business has really been picking up in the last 2-3 years, that she’s been getting a lot more interest from the United States as well. I personally think it’s only the beginning for her.

I had sent Corrine a few pictures of the  RUDYBOIS dresses I will be wearing at the Junos this week, so together we picked out a few pieces that would definitely make a statement in front of the camera and on the red carpet. Though it was really hard to pick, we finally narrowed it down to a few favorites. Curious to see what I ended up picking and what I’ll be wearing? You’ll have to keep checking back on the blog later this week to see the final look!

Can’t wait to rock some Biko on the red carpet in Regina!!! A big thank you to Corrine for letting me wear some of her fabulous designs this week. I couldn’t be more excited and honored!!

Keeping spring in mind #DailyOutfit

Happy Friday everyone!!

It’s hard to keep in mind that it’s actually spring already with the really crappy weather we’ve been getting this past week. Snow in mid-April? Really? Not quite sure what’s going on with mother nature but it’s hard to not let the grey, cold and rainy weather affect your mood. Today, I tried to keep spring in mind when getting dressed despite the crazy wind and rain storm outside. I find that adding some color to my outfit can help brighten my mood. You should give it a shot? It won’t make the sun come out but it might just add a bit of pep in your step.

I’m really excited to be heading to Biko Jewellery studios this afternoon to meet with the lovely Corrine so pick out some jewels for the Juno Awards next week. Can’t wait to see what we pick out together. I want some pieces to go with my RUDYBOIS dresses and for the events, parties, etc. I’ll be attending. Will post a recap of my studio trip on the blog 🙂

Wishing you all a good Friday!

Houndstooth #DailyOutfit

Happy Thursday!

In exactly two weeks I’ll be heading back to New York!! I couldn’t be more excited to be going back to one of my favorite cities in the world. Can’t wait to shop, see friends, hang out and have the best time! I’m also really looking forward to seeing the lovely ladies of Lionette and also Verameat. Hoping to mix a little bit of business and fun during the weekend!

photo 1 (3)

But before I head to New York, I’m making my way to the great Canadian prairies next week for the Juno Awards. I haven’t been to Regina since 2006 so I’m excited to see that city again and be smack dab in the middle of the country. It’s going to be a wild week: not only are we covering the Juno Award festivities (doing a live hit, hitting the red carpet, etc.) but we’re also shooting the first ever BRBR cooking show, the first taxi BRBR show as well as doing a bunch of acoustic sessions and interviews with local artists. I’ll be updating my blog daily with what I’m up to, what artists we’ve met, etc. So stay tuned!

And prior to all of that, I’ve been asked to take part in a special music video being partly shot in Toronto this weekend. It’s for one of the biggest rappers in France – his name is Disiz. The talented @offneraurelien is directing his new video. I couldn’t be prouder of him! It’s truly my pleasure to play a small role in the video.  Check out the rad track below:

For today’s outfit, I decided to take out my houndstooth skirt, combine it with a plain white tee and bright red blazer. I also added some of my favorite jewels from Lionette, Oia Jules & Biko.

Juno Nominations #DailyOutfit

Today is an exciting day for Canadian music! The 2013 Juno Nominations (the Canadian Grammys) are being revealed in Toronto.  I love the Juno Awards because they go above and beyond just putting on the gala itself. The entire week leading up to the gala is filled with activities, benefits, showcases, etc. Each year, the Junos are held in different cities across the country.  This year the gala and Juno Week is being held in Regina, Saskatchewan on April 21st. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from covering the Juno Awards and the red carpet for the last couple of years, it’s to dress WARM! Each year, they decide to do the red carpet outdoors even if it’s still snowing out.  I was really lucky to wear a beautiful and warm dress from Martin Lim last year, which kept me toasty and I’m really looking forward to working with another up and coming designer for this year’s red carpet. Details to come 😉

For today’s Juno Nominations, I’m wearing a brand new southwestern inspired stretchy skirt from Topshop, a white tee, my diagonal zip black jacket and my 80%20 boots.  I’ve also paired that with brand new accessories from Topshop and Asos. I’m in love with my new Aztec necklace!
