13 Cities, 13 Runs – Saskatoon

It was my first time visiting Saskatoon last month. Though I had been to Regina a couple of times, my travels had yet to take me to “The City of Bridges” as some people call it.

The first thing I noticed about the city was that their food scene was on point! For a small city of 250 000 people, they have many amazing restaurants, cafés, juice bars, etc. I’ll be talking about these in a future travel post. That said, eating well made it even more motivating for me to explore their local running trails.

I loved running on some of the different bridges that cross the South Saskatchewan River. There are lots of great trails that follow the waterfront in Saskatoon. The Meewasin Trail is by far the most popular in the area. It’s a paved and dirt trail that spans more than 40 kms in length across the city.

The trail is easily accessible and there are several parking lots around the waterfront such as the one located at 33 St E. and Spadina Crescent E., right beside the train bridge.

I started my run by crossing the train bridge and then by running along the waterfront on the University of Saskatchewan campus. I went further north to then take the Circle Drive bridge back to the other side. What’s great about this trail is that you can easily access downtown and also customize your routes according to how you’re feeling without really getting lost. It’s easy to use the river as your guide while running.

It was a quiet and relaxing run. Though many people use the trail, the advantage of being in a small city is that it isn’t overcrowded. You’re also really close to nature, which makes for a very scenic run.

Back from Regina #DailyOutfit

Hey everyone!

Hope your week’s off to a good start! Apologies for the lack of updates last week, it was absolute madness in Regina. I just flew back late last night and was already at work early today to shoot BRBR episode 29 today. Can’t believe it’s already the before last show of the season! Time flies!! I had the best time in Regina this past week. Though there was still tons of snow on the ground, it was nice to be back there. The one thing that really stood out from my trip, was just HOW NICE everyone in Regina was! Wow! It’s so refreshing and nice to see people be so kind, helpful and smiley to everyone. I definitely really appreciated everyone’s warm welcome. We also met some really great local artists from Saskatchewan like High Hopes, Fly Points, Pimpton, Young Benjamins, etc. We also spent time shooting some new pilots for next year such as a Taxi show and a cooking show! Oh yea!!

I also took up a pretty interesting challenge last Friday when I hosted a 30min livestream in English and French live from the Juno Awards’ opening cocktail and welcome reception. I was really lucky to have some of this year’s Juno nominees who joined me for the livestream including Bahamas, The Pack a.d., Miranda from Great Lake Swimmers (yea ginger!) and the lovely Hannah Georgas. The 30min livestream was such a rush!! Looking forward to another similar challenge in the future!

Saturday and Sunday’s galas were also tons of fun! It was great to see a lot of my media and industry friends as well as some bands that I really respect and love. Though she didn’t end up taking home any awards, Hannah Georgas put on a killer performance during the big gala on Sunday night. I really hope this will open up even more doors for her in the future. It was also wonderful seeing Hey Ocean! walk down the red carpet for the first time, so proud of how far they’ve come!!

Below you’ll find the brief recap we put up from Sunday’s big gala red carpet. A big thank you to RUDYBOIS and Biko Jewellery for letting me wear their lovely designs this weekend! I’ll be putting together a special report on the Junos’ red carpet tomorrow that will be airing next Monday April 29th at 8pm EST. Make sure you keep an eye out for it! Here are a few pics from the Juno weekend!

Juno Nominations #DailyOutfit

Today is an exciting day for Canadian music! The 2013 Juno Nominations (the Canadian Grammys) are being revealed in Toronto.  I love the Juno Awards because they go above and beyond just putting on the gala itself. The entire week leading up to the gala is filled with activities, benefits, showcases, etc. Each year, the Junos are held in different cities across the country.  This year the gala and Juno Week is being held in Regina, Saskatchewan on April 21st. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from covering the Juno Awards and the red carpet for the last couple of years, it’s to dress WARM! Each year, they decide to do the red carpet outdoors even if it’s still snowing out.  I was really lucky to wear a beautiful and warm dress from Martin Lim last year, which kept me toasty and I’m really looking forward to working with another up and coming designer for this year’s red carpet. Details to come 😉

For today’s Juno Nominations, I’m wearing a brand new southwestern inspired stretchy skirt from Topshop, a white tee, my diagonal zip black jacket and my 80%20 boots.  I’ve also paired that with brand new accessories from Topshop and Asos. I’m in love with my new Aztec necklace!
