This Is What Rock N’ Roll Looks Like! #DailyOutfit

It’s with little sleep but much excitment that I start what will probably be the longest work day of my life… or at least of the last little while. After months of planning, the day has finally arrived! Tonight is the first ever Canadian Music Week BRBR showcase “Le French Tickler“. Starting at 8pm at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto, some of our favorite Canadian artists will be showcasing tracks from their latest releases. On the bill, we’ve got Eight and a Half (ex-The Stills & Broken Social Scene), Peter Peter, Karim Ouellet, Pandaléon, Loud x Lary x Ajust and Claude Munson & The Storm Outside. I couldn’t be more excited to know that the showcase is almost all sold-out! There will be a few tickets at the door and some passes/wristbands will be accepted. More info about the evening here:

The entire show will be livestreamed on our facebook page, so if ever you can’t make it out to the show, you can watch it live starting at 8pm EST here.  We’ll also be taping a special BRBR show with the artists during the afternoon that will be airing on April 1st.

My anthem for today couldn’t be more fitting and is a great pump up track by Porcelain Black!

Last night, I had a blast at Day 3 of World MasterCard Fashion Week. I went to see two shows: Mackage and Joe Fresh.

I absolutely fell head over heels in love with the entire Mackage collection. The first look, as seen below floored me. I loved the mixed leather and fur biker jacket, the burgundy leather skirt and leather leggings paired with their amazing new line of handbags and rad platform heels. I loved the red wool plaid skirts and shorts, all of the leather jackets, the fur, the long trench coats with leather trim, the schoolgirl backpacks and the little leather biker gloves. To me, Mackage’s fall/winter 2013 collection was the perfect mix between class and rock n’ roll! I can absolutely see myself wearing every single piece of the collection, it’s totally my style. I couldn’t be more excited to have seen such an inspiring runway show. Definitely my favorite this year! Now, I need to start saving up, if I want to add the new collection to my wardrobe.

The second collection I saw was Joe Fresh‘s Fall/Winter 2013. The room was absolutely packed for the show, which started off with some lovely French indie/electro music. That definitely got my attention! Though I don’t own many Joe Fresh pieces, I’ve always respected the line for creating quality affordable and stylish pieces that can be paired up with just about anything. They’re perfect for basically any occasion. Last night’s collection, was all about black and white, shimery fabrics, biker jackets, studs and headscarves?! Yup, a handful of models were wearing headscarves over their short black bob wig. I can’t say I was a big fan of the headscarves but… My favorite items of the collection were the black and white biker jackets, the black faux fur jacket and all of the black skirts. I also loved hearing French music throughout the show. Also, not sure if it’s just me, but Joe Mimran‘s final wave at the end seemed so heartfelt. He really seems like a sweetheart! Overall, I definitely see myself adding a few of those pieces to my wardrobe.

Happy Monday everyone! Today is the start of one heck of a week for me! Not only is it Canadian Music Week, but it’s also World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto.  I’ve been attending Canadian Music Week since 2006 but this is only my second season attending Fashion Week in Toronto. I couldn’t be more excited to be splitting my time between two of my biggest passions: Music & Fashion.  Tonight, I’ll be heading to the Bustle and Pink Tartan runway shows before going to see Mackage and Joe Fresh later in the week. Also this week, I’ll be hitting up conferences at the Toronto Marriott for CMW as well as doing a bunch of interviews and live music sessions with artists.  Thursday, we’re taping a special BRBR show live from our showcase at The Gladstone Hotel.  There are still some tickets left, so if you’d like to attend or for more info, click here.  Friday, I’ll also be covering the INDIES for the show.  Basically, no rest until next week!

So to prepare for a crazy week, I got a super cute manicure yesterday in Liberty Village at X-Nail & Spa. They gave me an ombré blue and green shellac manicure that changes color like a mood ring depending on your temperature. I couldn’t be more stoked about how it turned out!

I’m super excited to announce that my show and I will be putting on our first ever Canadian Music Week showcase on March 21st at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto.

I’ve been attending Canadian Music Week for 8 consecutive years now, it’s one of my favorite festivals because it officially kicks off the spring and summer touring and festival season.  For those of you who don’t know what Canadian Music Week is, it’s similar to Austin’s South By South West, but a little more tamed  organized and colder weather. Basically, it’s a week-long music festival where artists, industry folk and media gather together to attend panels and put on showcases all in order to promote up and coming talent.  Over the years, I’ve attended as a label rep, radio host, tv host, manager, etc. and each year I’ve met some amazing people and discovered great artists.  All of Toronto’s music venues and bars become locations for showcases in the evening and during the day the Royal York Hotel is transformed into the meeting point for everyone in attendance. All you have to do is sit down with your computer in the lobby and you’ll make tons of great new connections.

So for our first ever showcase with BRBR, we decided to showcase some of our favorite up and coming bilingual Canadian talent.

Peter Peter – a Montreal singer-songwriter who’s buzzing these days in the US and across Canada thanks for the first single off his sophomore effort, a single that reminds me a lot of M83’s “Midnight City”. Everyone knows I have a little sweet spot for him.  He definitely has big cross-over potential in the English market.  Keep an eye out for him!

Eight and a Half – some might call them a super group because this trio features ex-members of The Stills and Broken Social Scene.  Dave Hamelin and Liam O’Neill recently re-located from Montreal to Toronto to pursue their new musical project.  Their first release was one of my favorites last year. Check out the rad “Go Ego” here:

Karim Ouellet – one of the most talked about artists in Quebec right now. His second record “Fox” made it to the top of the charts, not bad for a young artist from Quebec City. I really respect what he does, he’s a great lyricist and talented multi-instrumentalist.  The track below “Amour” plays everywhere across Quebec these days!

Claude Munson & The Storm Outside – is my latest discovery! They’re a great folk-group from Ottawa. Claude Munson’s voice is absolutely charming. It’ll be my first time seeing them live but I couldn’t be more excited! Take a listen here:

Pandaléon – a trio of young guys from St-Bernadin, Ontario, who are currently working on their first full-length. They’re recording and producing everything themselves straight out of their garage, turned jam space.  Their mature songwriting has always impressed me! They don’t have an official video out yet but you can get a little sneak peek of their track “Taché” here:

So if you’re into discovering great Canadian artists, I highly recommend coming to check out our little showcase on March 21st. Yours truly will be hosting the event 🙂 If you’ve got a festival wristband or pass, you can get in for free. If not, tickets are available here:

Hope to see you there!
