Just got back from NYC yesterday, after an amazing long weekend trip! Make sure to check my blog in the next couple of days to see a little recap on my trip featuring some of my favorite spots of the weekend! We tried some amazing new restaurants that I’m excited to share with you all!
Yesterday, I flew back to Toronto early in the morning because I had the honor of presenting a band at the 2013 Polaris Music Prize. I wasn’t able to divulge until yesterday that I was chosen to be one of this year’s presenters alongside Sarah McLachlan, Sebastien Grainger, George Stroumboulopoulos, Martin Gero, just to name a few. So humbled by the fact that I was presenting with these inspiring folks.
I was chosen to present Young Galaxy, whom I absolutely love. Their latest record Ultramarine is a real gem. They were my top pick on this year’s ballot. I was so nervous but so humbled by the whole experience. Thanks to the band for being so inspiring as well as Steven Jordan & Claire Dagenais for all of their amazing work.
For today’s outfit, I decided to wear my new Topshop threads that I bought in NYC this weekend. I’ve never been one to wear hats but out of curiosity while browsing around the big Topshop store on Broadway, I saw a cool looking hat and decided to try it out. To my surprise, I didn’t feel as ridiculous as I thought I would feel wearing it. So I bought it 🙂 Plus, I bought this fun snakeskin dress. I also had to stop by my favorite little boutique in Williamsburg to get a new Verameat buddy. I got a new gold Brachiosaurus pendant. Nerd alert 😉
I thought I could fight it but apparently my immune system wasn’t strong enough. I officially have a cold! As per usual it’s the worst timing ever with a cooking shoot today, my upcoming trip to NYC tomorrow, the Polaris Prize on Monday, show shoot on Tuesday, etc. But as my mom always said when I was a kid – the show must go on!
So for today’s outfit, I really opted for comfort and warmth! I’m wearing some of my favorite Anine Bing pieces and a super soft leopard shirt.
So excited to be going back to NYC in two days! AH!!
While I’m in NY this weekend, my friends at Uranium in Montreal will be doing their annual Fall Sample Sale. They’ve got lot’s of great clothes, jewellery and accessories! Make sure you stop by if you’re in the area to get 50% off as well as a bunch of goodies!
Playing it bold for today’s look. Mixing my beetlejuice BlackMilk leggings with a plaid shirt! So stoked on my brand new Verameat “Sharktopus” necklace!
Today is yet another travel day! I’m off to Montreal this weekend for this year’s Prix Gémeaux gala. The show that I work on received a nomination.
For the occasion, I’ll be wearing a brand new RUDYBOIS dress from his new SS14 collection. Here’s a little sneak peek.
I decided to get some custom nail art to match the dress from the talented Esther Mulders.
I’ll be posting pics of the final look early next week! 🙂
Today, two of my favorite New York designers Pamela Love x VEDA, finally announced their collaboration together. They’ve paired up for a rad line of biker jackets that I had seen in the Bing Bang NY offices in the spring. The jackets are simply irresistible! I want one!! They’re now available for pre-order here. DREAMY!
Running on very little sleep since I went to Miami last week, so I was in dyers need of a good pump up track! I was stoked to find out that one of my favorite bands Phantogram, (I really miss working with them, they’re some of the nicest people!) released a brand new track from their upcoming record Voices. Their new track is a definite hit! Can’t wait to hear the rest of the record! The track is called “Black Out Days“, you can listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/phantogram/black-out-days-6
Off to Montreal! Wishing everyone a fab weekend! xo
I was lucky to have stellar weather during my trip to New York this weekend! For the occasion, I packed some light colorful clothes. I absolutely love my white denim pants that I bought last spring at Zara. They’re so versatile and don’t wrinkle! I also still can’t get enough of my Pamela Lovex Nine West boots. I always get so many compliments when I wear them. While I was in NYC this weekend, I actually got to peek at a new collaboration Miss Pamela Love is doing with VEDA for next fall. They made some stunning biker jackets! Keep an eye out for them!
This weekend I had the opportunity to spend a few days in New York City in between work trips. I couldn’t have gotten better weather for the weekend! I love going to New York all year round because I really feel that the city has something to offer every season!
I started off my trip by finally meeting the two lovely ladies of Lionette. Noa and Vanessa were real sweethearts. They showed me around their office, gave me a preview of some upcoming projects and also took me to eat some delicious thai food (thanks ladies! yum!). I’ve rarely met such driven young women who are focused and know exactly what they want and how to run a business. It’s no wonder their line has been doing so well all over the world! Their creations have already been on the covers of countless magazines and have been worn by celebrities and popular bloggers around the US. If you haven’t already, make sure you take a few minutes to check out their lovely designs, I guarantee you will fall in love with them!
As most people who travel to New York, I love trying out new restaurants every time I go. Since I was staying in the West Village this time, I had the opportunity to try out some great little cafés, restaurants and new bars. My favorite place for brunch this weekend was a little Belgian restaurant called Petite Abeille. A random fact about me, my name in Greek means little honey bee, which is English for Petite Abeille 🙂 When I worked as a camp counselor, I had picked “bee/abeille” as my camp name. For several years, a received a lot of bee “swag” from the kids at the camp and also from fellow co-workers. Getting back to the café though, my friend Loulou and I tried their tartines, which is a traditional Belgian brunch item. They were delicious! They basically puréed some veggies, spread it on a toast with butter and served it with a side salad. Yummy!
I spent a lot of time this past weekend walking and exploring the West Village and also spent an afternoon in Williamsburg walking around Bedford Street and on the waterfront. There was a great outdoor food market taking place right by the waterfront on Saturday afternoon featuring lot’s of local vendors plus tons of organic and vegetarian food. I’m not quite sure how often the mini market happens, but it’s definitely worth checking out. The waterfront is also looking lovely now that the renovations are almost done.
Since I was in the neighbourhood, I had to stop by the Verameat store. Though I wasn’t able to catch Vera herself, her lovely store assistant Elizabeth helped me pick out some new Verameat friends including two new rings: mystery hugs & vampire crown. I also bought my boyfriend a two headed t-rex necklace that I will probably also borrow once in a while 😉
After a great afternoon spent in Williamsburg, it was back to Manhattan to see one of the artists I used to work with while I was working at Indica Records: Kim Churchill. He was playing the legendary Town Hall theater right around Times Square. I’m so proud of how far Kim has come along since I first started working with him over three years ago. His career is in full bloom and I have no doubt that he will become very successful! If ever you’re in the mood for some great folk-pop, like a guy who can shred on acoustic guitar and a one-man band, check him out:
I spent my last day in New York going for an amazing 8k run on the Hudson River all the way to Battery Park. It was so nice to see all the trees in bloom. Loulou was a great running partner. We also spent time on the rooftop of the building where we were staying, what a view! New York City is definitely one of the prettiest cities out there!
On my last night, I attended the first taping of a brand new web-based up and coming late night show put on but a bunch of young media professionals. Appropriately called Late Night New York, this 1hr late show taped in front of a small live audience hopes to promote art, activism, music & culture. Their first guests were really interesting! Check them out on Facebookto see when the next taping will be taking place.
A big thank you to my lifelong friend Loulou, who is always the best host. Growing up we did everything together and even tried to convince people we were sisters. We’ve been friends for 27 years now and I feel truly lucky to have her in my life!
Happy Thursday! This week has just been flying by! I’m beyond excited to be heading back to New York tomorrow to hang out with one of my besties and to meet some really great people. I’m delighted to finally meet the two lovely ladies behind Lionette. I’ll also be stopping by the Bing Bang NYC showroom and Verameat‘s BK store. Plus the weather should be amazing this weekend, perfect for walking around Manhattan and Brooklyn. I just wished I wasn’t getting up at 4am to take my flight eek!
For today’s outfit, I’m wearing hearts and one of my favorite new necklaces from Biko Jewellery: the Rena Ring Necklace.
