With summer right around the corner, it’s time to start summer planning! After having spent the spring primarily at home, I’m excited for all the travels that are coming my way this summer. For the first time since I was a teenager, I will actually get one full month of vacation, I can hardly believe it! I couldn’t be more excited to be spending this time in my favorite place on the planet, you guessed it: California!
This upcoming trip will be a fun one since we’ll be incorporating a mini road trip along the way, spending time in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada. We’ve already started planning for it and I can’t hardly wait! We’ll also be spending time in my favorite little beach town – Encinitas as well as Los Angeles and also going out to Palm Springs for the first time ever. If you have any travel recommendations, or must-see things while we’re there, please send them my way. I’ll be publishing a special series of blogs during and after the trip, so lot’s of travel tips coming your way this summer!
Today’s outfit, couldn’t be more representative of the California state of mind. This is the perfect post-surf and biking outfit. Boyfriend jeans, a California tee and a pair of brand new Sanuks. I love these new ones called “The Boardwalk“, they’re the perfect summer colour! Comfort and class, all wrapped into one!
Roadtrip anyone? I’ve been dying to get back into a van like this and head out for a long roadtrip. Last time I did such a thing, it was 2006. I left Montreal for three months on tour across North America. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Waking up in a different city every day, meeting new people, never knowing where you’d end up or what would happen, it was such an incredible journey. It allowed me to grow immensely and get to know myself and the people I was with a whole lot better. To me, it’s the ultimate freedom. I dream of crossing North America again, or going to Europe or even doing the Australian Gold Coast, while stopping at some of the best surf spots. Dreamy! Where would you go if you could get into a camper van today?
April is a good month! There are several reasons why: Spring is here, the days are longer, it’s warmer out, I can finally put away my winter jacket and I can start riding my bike again! This month also marks the beginning of my journey towards the Nike Women’s 15k race in June. Watch for my special blog post tomorrow about what I’ll be doing leading up to my 1st ever 15k race. I’m so excited!! What are some of your favorite things about April?
This week has been absolute madness for me. I just got back from NYC on Monday and headed straight into World MasterCard Fashion Week. I decided to go a little more mellow on the shows this year, having been to almost all the shows these past couple of seasons. Though Fashion Week is incredibly inspiring, fun and a great networking opportunity, it’s also incredibly tiring. So this season, I picked and chose the shows I most wanted to attend – Mackage, Hayley Elsaesser, Narces, etc. Catch my recap of some of my favorite moments of World MasterCard Fashion Week this weekend on the blog! Also coming this weekend!! Don’t miss my #5QuestionsWith Hayley Elsaesser!
A perfect weekend in the city is underway! Brunch at the Drake Hotel, afternoon stroll in the sun, eating the goûter at the Tempered Room and spending the evening watching a brand new season of House of Cards. Anyone else binge-watching House of Cards this weekend?
I also discovered an amazing new place called Her Majesty’s Pleasure in Toronto last night. It’s a cafe, bar, hair and nail salon. Located on King West, this brand new “fashion house” as they call it, is the perfect place for a date with a girlfriend or just for a relaxing drink or snack. I love the concept of mixing café/drinks and a beauty salon. They also use and sell a lot of local and natural beauty product brands like one of my favorites LOVEFRESH. I had the prettiest and yummiest custom-made drink at the bar last night. I look forward to my next visit!
Hope you have an enjoyable weekend! Can’t wait to ditch the layers and jacket next week and soak in the California sun!
Though the ocean is definitely my element, I recently found a kinship with the Valley of Fire in Nevada. Maybe it’s because I found a place who’s colors matches my fiery mane… 😉 The one thing that’s for sure, is that the day I spent at Valley of Fire, was one of the best days of my life. Seeing 4000 year-old petroglyphs, 150 million-year-old petrified logs are just some of the things that make this place so amazing! If you have yet to give this place a visit, you’ll want to make the drive out there next time your in Vegas!
Just got back from the most awesome trip in Vegas! I’ll be sharing some of my favorite things from this trip on a new travel blog coming soon. With so much traveling coming up in the next couple of weeks, packing and dressing appropriately for traveling has become key. Over the past couple of years, my travel style has definitely evolved and as of late I’ve been prioritizing comfort and warmth (Sunday night’s redeye flight back to Toronto was like flying in an ice box!!) above anything else. Love some relaxed slacks, a baggy tee, layering some sweaters or jackets and a comfy pair of kicks. What are your favorite things to wear when traveling?
I think I have an obsession with grey. Just putting it out there. I don’t know if it’s the grey weather, me getting older or what, but lately I’ve found that I’ve been particularly drawn to grey. According to color psychology (if such a thing can be true), grey is the color of compromise, it’s detached, neutral, impartial and indecisive – the fence-sitter. It’s interesting to reflect on the meaning of this color. The one word that does stick out in this color analysis is “neutral”, I often feel in life that I’m the “neutral” person, whether that directly reflects in what colors I wear, I doubt it but it’s an interesting exercise to figure out why I’ve been drawn to this color lately.
I’ve noticed over the past couple of months, I’ve been shying away from bright colors and prints for my every day clothes but have opted for that color scheme when working out. Maybe it’s a workout motivator to wear bright and fun colors and prints? Either way, I find it fascinating to see how my own personal style is evolving. Anything you’ve noticed in your way of dressing these past couple of months?
One thing I’ve been meaning to do for a long time is go horseback riding. As of late, I’ve been thinking of all the things I have yet to do a lot of in my life and getting to know horses better and try horseback riding again is one of those things. Horses are such beautiful animals but I’ve only had the chance to be around them a handful of times in my life. My aunt is actually a champion at show jumping and barrel racer out west and there are several photos in my mom’s house of me as a child beside my aunt’s horse before or after her competitions. As a kid, I remember visiting her bedroom and seeing dozens of ribbons, medals and trophies for her achievements in horseback riding. Lately, I’ve had the opportunity to visit a bunch of places in France that had ponys but have yet to spend much time with horses. One more thing to add to the bucket list I guess 😀
What do you do in your downtime? Are you someone who likes to read? I realized recently that I read less than 10 books this past year. How scary is that? I used to read all the time but with the advent of Netflix, getting and iPad, blogging, etc., most of the downtime I spend indoors is connected to some form of technology. I got a major reality check this month when Offner and I rented a house in Malibu in the middle of the canyon with no wifi, no tv and basically no technology whatsoever. What else is there to do at night when you take technology away? We’re so tied to it that it feels funny at first to not be able to “refresh” your twitter, instagram, etc. every 5 minutes.
We decided to embrace this lack of technology and found ourselves playing games (mimes anyone?), talking a lot more and reading a bunch before going to bed each night. It was actually quite calming. Though I’m not one to make yearly resolutions every January, one of the things I will make a conscious effort to do more this year is to read. It’s another form of relaxation that I often overlook and want to make sure I don’t as much in the future.
I’m always looking for reading suggestions so if you’ve got any good books you’d like to share, comment below! 😀
