I got to spend a lot of time by the ocean these past two weeks! The ocean is such an incredible wonder to me. I have the utmost respect for it. The saltwater air, the sand, the palm trees and the water all make me feel so incredibly at peace. When I’m surfing, I don’t think about anything else. It’s my meditation, my therapy. I may have said this before but it’s pretty much the only thing that completely clears my head. I can sit on the beach and check the waves or the surf all day long, no need to do anything else. I never get bored of it. I think one of the reasons why I love the ocean so much is that I spent my childhood and adolescence at the ocean every summer with my mother. We would stay at the beach from early in the morning until dinner time. As a kid, I spent my days in the water, swimming around, bodysurfing, collecting seashells and playing in the sand. As a teenager, even if I wasn’t the most confident in a bathing suit, going to the ocean, make me feel at home and happy. I’m so happy to have been able to do so many ocean and water-related activities this past trip – surfing, swimming, wakeboarding, wakesurfing and handboarding (which I’ll be talking about on the blog soon!). I’m so grateful to San Diego photographer Nathan Petty, for having captured my smile and genuine happiness at the ocean during this photo shoot we did together in one of my favorite places in the world – Encinitas! Thanks Nathan!
